I saw this tool in the latest model engineer magazine and decided to make one
Simple and only took a couple of hours. It called for a piece of steel or aluminium 60x30 13 thk.I used steel 65x 16 flat x 32 lg and cleaned up all around. The extra thickness allowed me to machine a 13x3 slot one side and
a 16 x 3 slot the other which gave me a double sided version to accept
my 4" or my 6" verniers.Simple and cheap.I normally only finish tools to an average std as my philosophy is that a tool is meant to be used not looked at
However i will make an exception with this and polish u p to a higher standard

I need to make one of those but I'm afraid the clamp would distort the bottom of the foot. So the question is how has it worked out for you? Does the foot rock after being clamped to the caliper?

Hi, the groove does need to be a good sliding fit, then a nip up of a couple
of thou does not distort the foot.Seems to work well but time will tell

Yeah I kinda realized that properly fitted this shouldn't be a huge problem. I was thinking at one time going with a wedge or gibb to hold the caliper in place. The idea was to keep the back solid. I'm warming up to this approach but then I will need a slitting saw.

By the way, how do you fight rust on polished steel (assuming steel here)?

Don't have a problem with rust here.Hot and dry climate
My slitting saw was blunt so I used a 2.5 dia endmill
The article shows a sawcut, but its all over the place
and looks terrible
