Hello everyone :)

I just found your excellent-looking forum this afternoon, and it looks to be just what I was after. I got myself a HF 7x12 mini-lathe for Christmas this year and am looking for things to make. So far I've done three simple compressed air engines:

I'd kinda like to do a Stirling engine next; suggestions on a relatively simple one that is likely to work would be appreciated :)

Looking forward to participating in the forum!

Welcome to HMEM dgjessing.

I'd say that Christmas gift that has been put to very good use.

Nice engine builds! Thm:

Welcome!

Where did the plans for the rotary valve engine come from? There are lots of new builders out there and that looks like a good one to start with.

Welcome. Nice 3 engines. Many more to come I'm sure. ironman

Ain't that the truth!

Welcome to the forum. You fit right in.

Very nice, I especially like the rotary wobbler. You must get lots of shop time :) :) :)

Welcome..

Thanks everybody - what a great welcome :)

The rotary valve one I just kinda made up as I went along. I've been thinking about that sort of valve off & on for years, but had never been able to try it till now. May do another one like it - this first one is really sloppy & leaks like crazy; the cylinder is gas pipe honed out with emery cloth, the bearing/valve body has just a drilled hole (no reamers then), etc.

As for shop time, I actually have a good excuse to be out there a lot, but I should be making ukuleles instead (they bring in money :)). http://www.wsukes.com/

Welcome to HMEM, dgjessing. Love your Ukes! Great craftsmanship.

I've been a woodworker most of my life and have always wanted to build a musical instrument. Leaned toward guitars, but maybe a Uke would be a better place to start.
