Finding a single #4-40 die was not as easy as I first thought. Fortunately my local building supply company had one.

I turned my material down to .1120" diameter and the die threaded it without a problem. But, the finished threaded rod would not screw into my other part. I found that it does not match up the my thread gauge and doesn't screw onto a store bought 4-40 nut. It may actually be a 4-48 NF but my gauge stops at 40 TPI.

Has anyone else had this happen ? I did read recently where someone had a similar problem. And, of course, why does this sort of thing happen on a difficult to find tool ?
