Machinist's are a strange breed of cat.
We love to make parts. If making those parts creates a running model
we are very happy! If making part helps out a friend of neighbor that
feeling doubles.

I read something the other day that I feel is right on target for that.

"I cannot believe the purpose of life it to be happy.
I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be responsible,
to be compassionate.
It is, above all to matter, to count, to stand for something,
to have made some difference that you lived at all."

That is something I can believe in!

I can agree with that. Happiness is an ephemeral thing. It comes and it goes, and in the end it is a feeling devoid of real substance.

But to know that you've made a difference somewhere in some way. Well, that lasts forever.

Satisfaction carries the day.

Somewhere I read, and as I remember it, the saying goes "Search out the glint of gold in the sea of bronze" Think it was from Plato Republic, but then again. However the meaning as I took it is should one happen across this glint (person) pass along what wisdom you can, recognize that although many shine bright, the truly Incorruptible are far and few between.
