Hi Guys,

A couple of quotes from "A Work in Progress".

Been trying to catch up on the builds, everything is a blur.

I try to read all new WIP threads and a few of the other sections everyday, but still can't keep up even with those. There's a lot of good activity on this forum. Lot of good folks.

My 3 month absence during our house building and moving gave me withdrawal symptoms from our hobby. My return as a more regular poster has been a shock. The number and diversity of projects is staggering and I don't think I've fully caught up with all the activity or even ever will.

For those who I have not managed to latch onto, I'm sorry, it's simply a matter of timing. The time differences between North America and OZ during summer mean that when I log on in the morning here, I am overwhelmed by the volume of posts in our more popular boards from your today/my yesterday.

Skimming is the only way I can go from top to bottom of the various boards and still have some of the morning left for the rest of my life.

Best Regards
Bob

I recognize one of those quotes, Bob.
; )

"A Successful Problem" is a good way to title this post.
I know what you mean, too. If I started the day with this forum, I wouldn't have time to do much else. Most all of my viewing here is done sometime in the evening, after I'm tuckered from the shop. It's hard to leave either one, (the shop, or the forum), once I get started!

AMEN BROTHERS !!!!!!!!

As a beginner who is trying to figure out what I even want and need and trying to read the WIP's for tips is overwhelming to say the least. I've bought $120 in printer ink and another case of printer paper in the last two weeks. And the binders for all of this knowledge and about $250 in books. JEEZ LOUISE! It's already an expensive hobby....oh well...what else can one do with their retirement check....save it? NAH!

Yeah it's been a real struggle for me lately. And I've been on vacation and on the forum quite a bit!

I wonder if it's possible to list the last several updated topics much like the last 100 replies?

Or how about customizing the list not to include certain members? (I can think of several who are a waste of time. :big: Let's see...there's Vxxxx, Twxxxx, Dexxx, Bxx...Okay too many to list here.

Or how about a 'keyword block'? Exclude posts with the word 'beer', 'phaffing', 'D reamers'...Anymore suggestions? I know 'zee' will be at the top so I'll just say it now. :big: Besides I'd use it too...why waste my time seeing posts I've written? And would I want to see replies directed at me? :big:

It's a great problem. It's a great forum.

Pro Surfer tip: Hit the "show unread posts since last visit" link. Then go down the list and click the middle mouse button/wheel on the blue
new.gif
pills. That opens the threads in a new window right at the new posts (works in Firefox and recent IEs). Crank through your new mass-o-tabs.

Bob,

I know what you mean...I end up feeling guilty for not supporting everyone....I guess as a forum its a good problem!

My appologies to all, I'll poke in when I can. I've got some vacation coming now between jobs....maybe I can make some chips! ;D

I'm slowly getting it thru my head that I can't read all the new posts and still have time to do other things. I too feel guilty about not keeping up but think the people on here understand. I hope they do anyway.

I use "Show unread posts since last visit" exclusively but it still is a long list!

I have had 2 weeks vacation and have caught up with most builds except my own!

You guys just need to prioritize your time better. There are 24 hours in a day :big:

This place is my dream come true as a couple of years ago I thought I was all alone.

Thanks everyone,
Sean

I like the title of this thread.
"A Successful Problem" sums it up very accurately.
It keeps me busy. It has been 13 months since I last finished a part
in my own hobby shop. Please don't think that is a complaint!
I am very pleased with what HMEM has become. I never dreamed
a simple idea would would ever grow as quickly as it has. When it was
set up, the boards were divided into special interest categories. As with
most of you, I want to read all of them. There are time that I have to
click the [MARK READ] button because there just isn't enough time.

I measure the success of a web site by the number of hits it receives.
December 2009 was another record setter here with 6.1 million hits.
That means a lot of new posts to keep up on. It also makes the site
an attractive target for the spammers. Our Administrative and Moderation
Team have been doing a great job of controlling them as they appear.
Your reporting of those incidents to us when you see them is vital to
that battle.

Yes it is a successful problem. One that I look forward to working on every day!

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!

Rick
