Hi

I have just completed a square collet block that will take standard MT2 collets and the Myford style collets. Here's a photo of the finished collet block along with the 2 types of MT2 collet and a draw bolt.

Here's the collet block in use. I am machining a square onto the end of a 3/32 stainless steel valve needle.

Here's the needle after machining.

A very useful tool. If any ones interested I'll post more photo's and a more detailed description.

Cheers

Nice one Rich, you'll find that very useful. Now all you need to do is make a 'fat washer' for behind the drawbolt, to act as a vice stop.

Hi

Thanks Tel, that's a good simple idea, I'll make one. It won't work when using a Myford style collet and the closing ring though. Another idea needed for that one.

Can't really help you with that one - perhaps a closing nut with a 'fat flange'?

Could I be so bold as to suggest another refinement?

When in drawbar mode, make the drawbar captive so that when you loosen it, it pops the collet out.

I think this could be achieved by cutting a groove on the draw bolt and putting a circlip or E-clip on that part of it that's inside the fat washer. You then cut two notches in the fat washer and make two little stepped retaining brackets that bolt to the body of the block. Insert drawbolt, washer and E-clip assembly, and rotate 1/4 turn to lock.

For disassembly, loosen the bolt; the E-clip hits the washer which can't go anywhere due to the retainers and the equal and opposite reaction pushes the collet out.

Hi Djc

That sounds good to me, I'll give it some thought.
