I finally finished the 6 Cycle engine I started 11 years ago. I did cheat and replace a piston ring with an O-Ring
Do a little cleaning and paint, then time to start on the Hoglet

Mr. Meyers: Isn't it a blast when a model gets to the point of being able to run? Mine took me several years to finish, I blame moving, family and having that poor excuse of having to do the four letter word (work), but when I finally got it started with my son there we were both quite amazed.
We called Grandpa and just let him listen to it for a while before we said anything and got a kick out of that also.
The plans were very good and clear so even I could follow them and get a operable engine. Pardon me if I intrude but I will put my little movie up here that my Daughter took when she was home at Christmas.

I apologize if I have stolen any of your thunder on building your fine model---CONGRATULATIONS!
I have been out of comission for a few months with Dr.s and hospitals and am just getting to where I can sit long enough to enjoy HMEM again and feel I have missed so much. I MISS PLAYING IN MY SHOP! Again I am sorry for the interruption of your post.

BMyers,

Congratulations on a very nice running engine.

dparker - you too

2 peas in a pod ::) ???

Best Regards
Bob

Great job! My long term goal is to build an IC. That has to be a great feeling of satisfaction completing one.

Great running engines--both of them!!

I have dumb question ???

Why do you call them "Six Cycle Engines" ?? I am not familiar with that term. Is it the same as a "Hit & Miss" or is it something different.

I see the governor on one side of the engine, and a rotating disc on the other side. Are these engines using the hall effect ignition?

I guess that's 2 dumb questions.

Third question: Are plans available for this engine?

Cool engines and I also am interested in plans

Cheers,
Phil

It is called a 6 cycle because unlike a typical 4 stroke engine this one has an addition exhaust stroke. So instead of suck, squeeze, bank, blow it is suck, squeeze, bank, blow, retract, blow. There are 3 revolutions of the crank per firing cycle instead of 2. The theory being 2 exhaust stroke would clear the unburned gases out of the cylinder better. I have to confess I sure like the idea of O rings over piston rings. After pulling out the cast rings and popping the O rings in, it started on the second pull.
As far as ignition, I am using the ole points and condensor
If you want plans you will have to contact Village Press as they were a build series in HSM.
