I've been using a 5C Hex collet block in the mill a bit lately for some work projects and decided to make a spanner to tighten the ring that came with the set. The knob device kept getting in the way in the mill vise. It's easier to get it good & tight now as well.
I made it from a piece of a cast steel handle that came off an auto hydraulic lift control valve we upgraded at work. It was rough and odd shaped so I drilled 2 3/8" holes in it and bolted it to a 1-2-4 block so it could be clamped up tight in the vise. I roughed the semi-circle in the bandsaw and finished with a carbide bit in a boring head. 1st time I've done an interupted cut with a boring tool but it cut real smooth. I turned the pin from a bit of drill rod and pressed it in with loctite.
It works great!
