    Moving sale find

I have one identical to it in my garage. You got a great deal.

    Elmer's Fancy II

That came out really well, and runs great too! I did a run of five Elmers Fancy #1s for Christmas gifts last year but I may have to build a #2 now also.

Why does increasing speed when taking very light finish cuts help things?

This is exactly how I do it! I usually do this same routine at a slightly larger arbitrary diameter first just to see how the tool/material will behave regarding finish and taper when I get to the actual finish diameter.

I'm sorry, it should be viewable now.

    New guy, first build

Thank you! I finally rigged up a regulator so I can control the rpms a little better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9Sq23tJD_o&feature=g-upl&context=G2ad4ec2AUAAAAAAAAAA

Machining wider than the travel of your mill?

Can you swing the ram around like on a Bridgeport to make up the 4 inches?

    z Axis Woes

I'm not sure about a Clausing, but to solve this problem on a Bridgeport I put a spacer under the quill nut and lock nut and then tighten them both down on top of this spacer. This way the quill nut is supported by the head casting rather than the little c-clip at the bottom of the quill stop...

    .22lr Gatling project

Thanks guys I sat down and wrote all of the positions out the other day, and cut the slot this morning.

Another mystery attachment for my Hercus- can someone help?

That's what I was thinking too.

    .22lr Gatling project

I could use some help from one of you guys that has CAD software. I need to plot the toolpath in one degree increments to cut the slot in the boxcam for this project. The slot starts at TDC and .925 from one end of the cam. The slot continues around the cam at the .925 position until 36 degrees...

Help identifying a couple of engines

Thanks! That may be my first hit and miss engine build.

Help identifying a couple of engines

Thanks for the info, I guess finding a set of castings for one is out then. I just thought it was a neat little engine. Does anyone have any idea what the steam engine is?

Help identifying a couple of engines

The engines in the photos below belong to the father of a fellow on rimfirecentral, and I wonder if you guys can help me identify them? The steam engine was salvaged from a popcorn wagon that was being junked in the 40s, but it doesn't look like a Cretors or other popcorn engines that I've...

How do you mount a new lathe chuck?

When I did mine I put the backing plate on the mill, indicated center, and then drilled the bolt circle pattern. If you can give us the diameter of the bolt circle and the number of holes one of us can give you the cooridinates.

    Old tailstock

Machine a base for it and use it for a rotary table or indexer tailstock? I have this compound from a lathe that I've been mulling over what to make into. Maybe a radius turning attachment?

Cleaning up my Mill / Drill

It has been a couple of years now, try a search for Vactra #2.

Cleaning up my Mill / Drill

I'm with the Vactra #2 crowd, that's all we use in all of our machines at work. I also bought a small bottle along with a bottle of spindle oil on Ebay for my home shop. I even used it to lube the engines I've completed.

    New guy, first build

I was watching this video and at about the 0:35 mark in the video there is a vertical barring engine that sure looks like the same design as Elmers #42 to me. What do you guys think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV57oNTAPls

Pipe threads - threading tips anyone ?

I second the Moly-Dee. It's hard to get the stink off of your hands after using it, but it is by far the best stuff I've run across.

    A pair of Elmers #15

I made a friend of mine an Elmers #15 engine for Christmas(the one next to the lighter) and I liked it so much I went back and made another one for myself. The second one I machined in one session in the shop in about 4 hours. I took a few liberties with the intake and exhaust just to make them...
