    5 Cylinder Radial Steam Go-Kart

I found this video of someone's 5 cylinder radial steam powered go-kart/car & thought others may find it as interesting as I do.

Back in post #300 I wrote: "I THINK the coupler melted from heat created by friction as the stainless steel TT drive shaft spun inside the aluminum coupler, after the steam heat loosened the connection. I don't believe the steam heat alone melted the coupler's plastic spider. I'll tighten the...

At what temperature do auto tires "freeze"?? Must be well below the -40 C winters I've driven my car. Although freezing the rubber while CNC milling it would likely work, it doesn't seem very practical. Remember, I can buy the entire coupler for $4.

I agree,...skillfully cutting a plum coupler spider from an old tire would likely work,....it's my ability to cut each of the spider legs within a tolerance that wont throw all the pressure to one side of the coupler, that's in doubt

I Googled "The Right Stuff",.... seems the only way I can buy it here is through e-Bay in 300ml tubes, at $45.00 each plus $95.35 shipping. As I said, I can buy a new coupler from China for $4.00 including shipping. IF my epoxy spider fails, I will make another spider using Red RTV, which...

Thanks for all the detailed information Steamchick. Besides the Red and Copper RTV I mentioned, I'm not sure what other gasket maker materials are available here in Thailand. 3Bond sells quite a few epoxies, RTV, Contact glues, etc here in Thailand,....I'll need to look for their gasket...

We're singing the same song :) ,... high temp rtv gasket maker is what I meant when I said, high temp silicone. Either the Red or the Copper should work, but both will likely require a filler material as they both dry very flexible. Unless a solid powder is blended in, the final spider may be...

As shown below, both pressure sensors and temperature sensors came with shielded cables. In the photo, the silver wire is for the temperature sensor, (RTD) and the black wire is for pressure. Both shields are connected to chassis ground at the ECU connector.

All good ideas. I've had limited success using RC filters on the sensor input, but this is an area I need to revisit as the tests I performed were all done when I was still using the bad wires from China. Now that I've hopefully found and replaced all the faulty wires, I need to insert various...

Displaying temperature and pressure values even when you know those values aren't very accurate is how software development works; I now know the code (aka software) which fetches the temp and pressure readings which are actually values from 0 to 1023, and then changes those values into degrees...

I've already tried hanging 1000uf caps and various resistor values onto the power supply outputs with very little success. I've just ordered some LC filters made for power supply noise suppression,...hopefully these will work :)

    DIY Tesla Impulse Turbine

Well, that's not good,... as I suspect the stainless shaft will always rise to at least 100° C. The next test run will be interesting,...I replaced the melted spider with quick-set epoxy, essentially making a replacement spider using epoxy. If this too fails, I will use either a high temp...

    DIY Tesla Impulse Turbine

I have the liquid filled dial guage shown in the video in post #305 at 11 sec in, and I have been using that guage as my "gold standard" for pressure values, for adjusting pressure sensor values. But the real problems are electrical noise generated by the 3 motors, the two DC to DC power...

I still haven't been able to set the temp and pressure sensors to display accurate readings; view them as +/- 30. The video clearly shows steam shooting out of the 16mm copper tube at the end of the video, which shows open flow steam with no pressure and no water sputtering out along with the...

Compared to most boilers found on HMEM, my 10" diameter x 13" long monotube flash boiler, containing 30 feet of 5/8" diameter copper tube, is huge. The following video was taken just before I redirected steam flow into the Tesla turbine via a 3-way valve. Midway through the video I focus in on...

Steam flow rate was 0.83 LPM (Liters Per Minute) at just over 100 C and at nearly zero pressure. The coupler melted before I had a chance to measure RPMs and the voltage reading was made after RPMs had already dropped off. This test ended too quickly to have provided adequate data. I THINK...

Tesla Turbine success & failure in the span of a few minutes. I was finally able to perform a short test of my Tesla Turbine (TT) today. With the boiler running at 53% and making only 0.83 LPM dry steam, I move the 3-way valve to direct the steam into the TT,...and success,...it began to spin...

    Monotube Flash Boiler Design

Problem found and fixed :) A tiny, nearly invisible tear developed in the silicone tube I use for the fuel line, and because the fuel is sucked into the fuel nozzle via venturi effect, and not forced into the nozzle by a fuel pump, air was being sucked into the fuel line through the tiny tear...

    Monotube Flash Boiler Design

Shortly after typing my last post where I mentioned how rare it is to have coil wires inside a transformer develop a short, I remembered that I never had a problem with the coils (aka transformers) on the two previous high voltage boards, which suffered shorts on the high voltage circuit boards...
