    vernier calipers scare me

I thought it would be cool to get a vernier caliper, fewer parts than a dial caliper, figured with care it would last forever. bought a starrett 6" then when I tried to use it came the problem, I'm over 50, need a magnifing glass to read it. didn't figure on that. I have a starrett 6 dial...

    Diamond paste

My x-wife would use it as a facial cream, then discard it. (I have to pay for it of coarse).

    Stirling Engine by PJL (prints)

Autocad 3D solid model ver.2000, PDF prints. This version is my design, I don't have the machinery to build it, If someone builds it I would like some pics, feed back etc. Sorry if the drawings are a bit ruff, still learning Inventor program.

    Stirling Engine

I downloaded the stirling solid works model / drawings converted the model it to Inventor (one piece at a time), and made some modifications. Some nice info in what I downloaded but, I don't think it will run as I got it. The displacement cyl. was too long, the displacement piston was hollow, so...

    Dake Steam Engine

If it's a grey cast iron it is weldable, the trick is not the filler metal, I've successfully welded grey cast numerous times. I've used E7018, 308 stainless, and nickel rods, nickel is very expensive. Preheat the entire part to a dull red, run your pass, chip/peen/brush your passes, heat to...

course thread or fine thread ?

Heat treated alum. may be a factor, some alum. alloys when heat treated and not welded on after, have comperable strength to steels.

course thread or fine thread ?

I agree if your looking for bolt strength, not what the bolt goes into.

    Brazing Alloys

For what it's worth, I've used silver solder with 40% silver (coil not the flat sticks which have less silver) for various things it has really impressed me as to how Strong it is on one application it broke the base metal while the joint held. but you need a close fit, it doesn't fill like...

course thread or fine thread ?

I think the angle comes into play quite a bit here. Let's see if I can describe this, say you section a threaded hole lengthwise down the center, now zoom in if you will to a single thread say at the bottom middle of your cross section. You would be looking at a triangle with the point on top...

course thread or fine thread ?

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong section, (the message boards are a little confusing to me (old fart (youngster @ 50))) Here goes, is coarse thread stronger for pull out (tension not shear) than fine thread. (in soft metals such as alum.) I tend to think that coarse thead (female) is the...

    3D printing outfits?

Without checking, I hope I'm not breaking any rules here I like this site. If someone needs a 3D cad model for rapid prototyping or whatever, I can provide 3D dwg (autocad), 3D dxf (autocad), or 3D inventor files. I can also do the 2D drawings that go along with the 3D models but, that takes...
