    1936 Midget magazine plan engine

I downloaded and assembled some years ago these papers, great articles, lots of details for the built and the casting too...but too large for my tooling! http://ti1ca.com/wdhb6f7u-Midget-Gas-Engine-Pop-Mech-1936-Midget-Gas-Engine-Pop-Mech-1936.pdf.html

I am looking for a plan for a motor, similar to the Regner Piccolo.

this one seems very close to what you are looking for... http://jpduval.free.fr/Moteurs_vapeur_simples/MV%20deo%2010x20.pdf

    Sweet sixteen traction engine boiler.

thank you for this study on the boiler of this little Sweet 16’ traction engine. I have posted this simply to confirm that this design of the boiler has to be improved or completely redrawn, particularly if the size is doubled. As I drilled the jet myself, the dimension of this hole is not...

    Sweet sixteen traction engine boiler.

the burner and the boiler are close to the original plan of Rex Tingey (in his book and in the Model Mechanics paper), and not at the doubled size as in the J de Waal plan.... The burner works nicely, but chokes inserted under the boiler, unless a external blower or natural draught (exhaust in...

    Sweet sixteen traction engine boiler.

I did this little traction engine years ago, at the original scale 16mm to the foot, (i.e. 1/19 ) from the Rex Tingey book, but without its valveless engine, that I have replaced by a conventional cylinder and Stephenson valve gears... the boiler that I did according to the plan is a poorly...

Formulas for calculating the bore and stroke of a diesel engine

A function in 3D drawing software allows the calculation of a volume, hence it is easy to model the combustion chamber to determine its volume, even for a complex shape...more easy than measuring it with a liquid, particularly if the engine is not yet built!

Atom Minor Mark III - First IC Engine

very nice engine, congratulations ! I also did some years ago several little vintage 2 stroke engines, and yes, between 20-30% v/v of plain car oil in the petrol is "safe" , but I've ran engine with 12% for short demo in the garage, it also activate the smoke detector... the same 20-30 % ratio...

Another Knucklehead, built via castings, as a Draw-Tech design, upscaled

from casting the parts to the amazing finished and running engine, top notch thread, thanks to share ! so many things to learn here!

A New Method (?) to Dynamically Change Cam Timing when Engine is Running

A way to change timing while the engine is running is by moving the camshaft longitudinally, the cams being wider with a progressive change in profile in their thickness, then a different profil comes into play.

    Comber Rotary Engine

the cam is not truly circular... When the piston rod is vertical, it passes through the diameter of the circle. When the rod is horizontal, it is below the diameter, so you need to widen it a trifle (1.14 mm for 66.7 in dia) to avoid jamming. And obviously widening is progressive between the...

There is a fungus among us.

this mushroom seems to be Lepiota cristata, definitively not edible, although not very dangerous. and by the way Fungi are not animals, nor are they plants: they're a phylum in their own right, they are not autotrophic, no photosynthesis as plant do, they're saprophyte organisms.

Atom Minor Mark III - First IC Engine

nice to see one of these "sparkie" engine running... its good to run with lot of oil in the petrol, up to 25%. what kind of ignition you have, electronic module or HT coil and contact breaker as in the plan ?

My Flat Head Hit Miss Engine

Always a great pleasure to see a well thought-out personal design taking shape, thanks to share the build !

    Westbury Wallaby Likeness

great ! congratulations, a nice and running well engine ! the engine responds pretty well to the carb setting, vrooom vroom

my gauge 1 live "diesel" shunter

thanks for the comments, much appreciated! Jos: yes, 1.3 cm3 is correct, (11.5 mm and 12.5 mm for the actual bore and stroke)... A large part of the engine block is the cooling water hopper, which makes my little engine may look bigger, and tricky to seat in the small loco !

my gauge 1 live "diesel" shunter

hi Gail, thanks for the appreciation, so welcome coming from you... I'm pretty well aware of your work on your tiny powered locomotives! i've seen all the videos and read avidely all you post on it...your "Baldwin" are awesome locos. 2 years ago, I started this build after collecting lot of...

my gauge 1 live "diesel" shunter

my little loco in gauge 1 (1/32) is not powered by a true diesel engine I confess, but a tiny 4 stroke petrol engine of 1.3 cm3 from my own workshop, with spark ignition and fuelled with plain gasoline from the pump. I just finished an electronic ignition module small enough to rest under the...

    False Magneto

the problem with reed switches lays not only in the frequency (which may be quite high enough) but in the position of the sensor in front of the magnet with could be very critical : in my own tests...you may have 0 to 2 sparks per rotation according to their orientation... moreover, in one my...

    question about aluminum shrinkage

with Cura, it is simple to change the size of the print, and I print my pla models at 102 % to have cast parts in aluminium dead size... otherwise something around 0.5mm for a 20mm dia is missing on the cast part.
