    Tpactools DRO Calibration

My mill is an M head from 1946. When I bought it from a guy at work, all I heard was Bridgeport. Many moons later and not getting any younger, I decided to rebuild it short of scraping the ways. I’m not that young. I put new screws, gibs, bronze nuts, welded up the table, where some idiot must...

    Tpactools DRO Calibration

Thanks Harvey, all is well. The deed is done. It’s all calibrated. My hair is growing back from where I was pulling it out.

    Tpactools DRO Calibration

No problem, finally getting this calibrated was great. As we all know, Chinese manuals leave a lot to be desired. The You Tube video really made it easy. And Tom to his credit from Tpactools really tried to help me.

    Tpactools DRO Calibration

Actually, that is the reason to use put a DRO on an old machine, to compensate for the wear.

    Tpactools DRO Calibration

Doug, thanks for taking the time to answer. It’s appreciated. I have done exactly what you mention. As with any piece of machinery, working with it brings knowledge. After a number of emails back and forth with Tpactools, I started to look at You tube videos. Now, most of the vids are of...

    Tpactools DRO Calibration

I’m all set now I found another video on You Tube, ToAuto linear compensation the easy way. It clarified everything. It’s dead on XY and Z. As they say a picture is worth a thousand words in this case a video. The ToAuto unit is almost a clone of the Tpactools unit.

    Tpactools DRO Calibration

The installation of my Tpactools DRO is finished. Now it seems comes the hard part, calibration. I’ve been going in circles. Either I’m missing something in the instructions or it’s the instructions. At this point, it doesn’t matter. If there’s anyone out there that is familiar with this unit...

What have you been doing today?

I’m probably going to get myself in trouble but this forum seems to have turned into the Weather Channel with everyone looking out the window to see if it’s snowing. This is the time to be working on some project. Just my opinion.

What have you been doing today?

Thanks, I can’t wait to get this done. I have other projects waiting. I understand the concern about the cables. way too much length, but the manufacturer doesn’t know your installation. Better too long than short.

What have you been doing today?

I’m continuing to make progress on my DRO. I finally got the vertical knee bar dialed in up and down within tolerance. A real pain. I’ve mounted it this way to keep chips out and be able to use the shield.

What have you been doing today?

Continuing to work on my DRO knee bracket. What you’re looking at is the Y Axis custom bracket made out of a piece of heavy 6x4 angle iron, machined to lighten it up. The last photo is of one of two spacers for the knee bracket mount. I want to have the open DRO Z axis facing away from stray...

What have you been doing today?

Nice looking project, it’s always fun to add to one of your machines. I’m just finishing up on the 4th and final axis on my DRO. The knee on my Bridgeport is proving to be a real tough one. Contoured column and custom bracket but…. I want to do it right. Plus I want to be able to look at it...

What have you been doing today?

Well it’s Winter and I’ve been looking around my shop, half finished projects sitting there looking at me. One is the DRO I shelved when it got a little difficult. Perfect time to finish. I started by finishing the spindle downfeed read out. After that, I moved on to the Y Axis. Nothing more...

Wanted WTB: Unimat 3, BEGGING for help.

This lathe would be much better for you and less frustrating then a Sherline or Taig. This was just listed on Facebook Marketplace. It’s a South Bend lathe.

I'm looking to find a milling attachment

I used a milling attachment on my Atlas 12 inch for a long time until I got my M head Bridgeport going. The thing is, even with light lathe milling, a mill cutter can and will slip in a lathe chuck. I made my own taper cutter holders with set screw. I also made the draw bar to hold everything...

    Shop Vac for the Mill

I have been looking for this thread for awhile. I would like to thank you for suggesting this. I bought one at Harbor Freight. Since the vac is above my head, the on-off switch is out of reach. That was a problem plugging the vac in and out to use it. Problem solved. The units came in a three...
