    Hearing Aids

Hi Lloyd I hear ya...well actually I don't ;) my hearing is really bad. I started on the cheapo hearing aids from amazon about $50 and then went to a more expensive pair about $400 and none of them worked very well for my specific needs. All of the cheap ones are just amplifiers, they amplify...

    Bench grinder or belt sander?

Hi David I use a similar Harbor Freight sander for a specific finishing operation. This is the unit I have Link to Harbor Freight it is just the belt sander, no disc. I have always felt that a disc sander is almost useless unless it is a large diameter. They eat up discs really quick ( limited...

    Ball bearing center

Hi Gordon 2 Hose clamps a a piece of sheet metal bent to go underneath both clamps should hold it from turning. Before doing that I would hold it in a 4 jaw and dial it in to make sure the body and point run concentric, then clamp the 2 together. Just an idea. Scott

Can you remove anodizing color from aluminum?

wce4 I have done a bit of anodizing and can confirm that the Sodium Hydroxide ( Lye ) will remove the coating. It will do it fairly quickly. 10-15 min. It may not leach out the color but will remove the Aluminum Oxide coating. Which by the way is non-conductive. Before you try powder coating I...

    New to me.

Hi Mel If you know the adjustment was close to the end of the threads before, you could always make the bend closer to the end of the threaded end. This would have the same effect as tightening it up more. And it would make the nut or whatever it threads into closer to the start end of the...

    Jerry Howell Powerhouse 4 Cycle

Nice! That is without a doubt a "conical" spring. Glad you got it worked out!!! Scott

    Jerry Howell Powerhouse 4 Cycle

I have a spring winding tool that has a big knob on it that when tightened squeezes a delrin block against the wire to produce tension so it will wind tight agaist the mandrel you are winding on. I have in the past started with a mandrel sized for the small end of the spring and started with...

    Metal 3D printing filament

Thanks for that ! I liked the debind/sintering instructions https://thevirtualfoundry.com/debind-sinter/ Sounds like it will make a decent metal part but 7-10% shrinkage seems excesive. Scott

    New Member in Denver, CO

Welcome to the forum! Elevator mechanic? I am sure that job has it ups and downs. Sorry I couldn't help it. And I am sure you never heard that one before. :) I am in Ohio so can't help with local metal suppliers, but both Speedy metals and Online metals have pretty good prices and Online metals...

Another Knucklehead, built via castings, as a Draw-Tech design, upscaled

That looks like nice unit! I am also a big fan of probes. I am curious though, All of the different probing routines I have used for a bore do X twice. The first one on X can be anywhere in the bore. Close to the center is good. It then does Y And then repeats the X probe routine to refine its...

    New "Project Log" forum WHY?

I was half tempted to make the first project log with glaring incorrect information and stolen images from other members claiming to be mine, and detailing terribly dangerous machining operations. Which nobody could comment on. Report it sure, but hey it's on the internet it must be true. But I...

What is your purpose in getting into the hobby of building model engines?

Minh Thanh I think you made a mistake in combining the off topic posts. I think that it may have been better to move them all to a separate thread ( noting that in this thread), thus preserving your original post. Which I found interesting, the off topic drama, not so much. I do understand that...

Mastiff lc mason engine REDO .

Hi Minh Thanh I concur, drilling a bunch of small holes sucks! Several of my products have small holes. I am calling .0635" a small hole. I have drilled many thousands of these holes over the years. My advice for your upcoming hole jubilee is to first, make a fixture with a hardened bushing (...

    Total Eclipse April 8th, 2024 - Arkansas

If I stay at home we will get 3 1/2 minutes of totality. Not too far off of the centerline. But the local weather folks say historically that is an overcast day :( My location circled in red Scott

    Strange reamer designations

A friend of mine used to drive a garbage truck and was a real "Picker" if he would see something that looked fairly decent he would keep it and then have a big barn sale a few times a year. He made a lot of extra cash selling garbage. One day while picking up a roll off container from "Moen" (...

    thread measurements 13/4X8 T.P.I.

Lathe nut I think the confusion is in the terminology that you used. A metric thread is measured in mm per a single pitch not per inch. So your 4mm pitch gauge would mean that from the crest of one thread to the next would be 4mm. Imperial threads are measured as how many in an inch( TPI ) If...
