    VFD ...yea or nay

I run 3 different pieces of equipment with vfd. 2 knife makers belt grinders and a horizontal 9 inch disk. If I was putting in a step pulley Bridgeport I would go vfd for sure. I have had good luck with KB drives. http://www.kbelectronics.com/Variable_Speed_AC_Drives_Inverters.html

Is some Stainless Steels slightly magnetic?

As stated above 300 series stainless is generally not magnetic while 400 series is. I work with 410 and 416 stainless quite a bit. I routinely drill and mill both with 416 being the free machining grade.I can definitely tell the difference between 410 and 416. I also surface grind 410/416 on my...

Gus, To me it looks as if the top handle comes off much like my Dewalt with a single thru bolt. Here is a link to a company that fabricates platen/stands for Porta-band saws. The only reason I am linking is to give an idea of the different ways things can be accomplished. (Mods, if the link...

Congrats on your Christmas present! It looks as if the top handle comes off very similar to my Dewalt. I have seen others mount these saws in a variety of ways. even wall mounted for the ultimate in space saving. I cut a lot of 410SS, 416SS, CPM154(high end cutlery steel), CPM D2, D2, A2 and...

Best way to indicate part on rotary table?

I plan on building Jerry Howell's beamer engine . I have a 6 x 26 Knee mill and a Palmgren 8 inch rotary table. For example when forming the spokes on the flywheel, which Jerry suggests using a rotary table, what is the best way to indicate the flywheel onto the rotary table?

Great idea! These little saws really are amazing. My first one was a HF model, used it for 3 or so years, but got tired of rebuilding and tinkering with the tracking. These Dewalts are plug and play. Gus, I am glad you had me cut this piece of 1.250 mild steel bar stock, It made me think...

    Shop Tricks for Disabilities

Some great mods! I have a Harig Super 612 SG and while I sit pretty high in my chair the depth handwheel is at a max height for me. I may use your idea and do the same, thanks for sharing.

    Surprised to see this sub-forum

I recently joined HMEM as I purchased a set of plans and hope to build a Sterling engine. Really nice forum here;D. As I was getting familiar with the layout of the forum I stopped in here. I broke my back in 1979 and have used a wheelchair ever since. Went to gunsmithing school, spent 21...

I just recently joined, introduced myself to your wonderful forum and thought I would try and contribute for my first real post. I did a search and only found one other post on the subject so I hope this helps out a bit. I profile a lot of stainless/high carbon stock from flat stock that is...

Thanks for the welcome, I had to dig a bit but here is my Enco lathe. This lathe has a bit of an interesting past. I purchased it new in 1994, sold the business lock stock and barrel that I used the lathe in. About a year ago I was contacted by the new owners if I was interested in having...
