    Bolton No.2 Mill Engine

What an amazing build. Thanks for sharing it with us. You make it look so easy - I'm half way through building the Bolton No 7 & have found it more difficult than I originally thought using castings. Your photo's are brilliant too. Maybe you could give us a few tips on how you get such good...

    Fusion 360 learning ?s

Being a newbie to CAD, I have experienced many of the issues mentioned thus far. I agree wholeheartedly with lemelman. I don't seem to have a problem sketching etc but my big problem is understanding the basic the concepts of designing a model with numerous components/bodies & how to assemble...

    J & E Junior Hit & Miss Engine

Hi everyone & happy New Year, Been a while since I posted anything. I’m not very good at posting as I don’t think my skills at machining are sufficiently adequate. I do regularly read posts though. I do feel some guilt at having gained SO much knowledge & advice from all of you all while...

Viton O Ring for Steam Engine

Hi everyone, I'm currently building a Bolton No 7 horizontal steam engine. The plan calls for graphite yarn packing but I'd like to replace that with a Viton- O-Ring which, according to several posts, is quite satisfactory for a steam engine. So, my questions are: 1. I'm presuming I require a...

    Farm Boy 475

Well, its finally done. Took a while to get it going properly after the paint job. Thanks to all of you for your previous responses and suggestions. And of course, the obligatory video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJWw3QpB0wI

    Farm Boy 475

Jim, thats the leanest that I can get it to run and it's definitely firing at TDC. Yes, I would think that one intake cycle should fire it, but it doesn't. I've tried everything. Very frustrating but at least it runs. New carb made to JH's specs so I don't think thats the problem. Pete

    Farm Boy 475

Gentlemen, thank you for the comments and suggestions. John, some excellent suggestions - you wouldn't realise how much I have learned from you on this and other forums. Thank you. The original video had the wooden base fastened in a large milling vice. Here is a video with the engine sitting...

    Farm Boy 475

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJ5ZZ3AEdkA After 14 months of building it is going beautifully. The build was definitely at my limit of capability, being self taught and only starting ME 4 years ago. I now have the confidence to try something more complicated. It is running at about 600RPM...

My latest projects - Beam Engine and Webster

Edmund, thank you. Attached photos of my lathe and mill drill - definitely overkill for model engineering but when researching what machines to buy, all threads suggested 'buying the best/biggest machine you can afford'. I did that and don't regret it for one moment. I have done jobs for friends...

My latest projects - Beam Engine and Webster

G'Day gentlemen. I have completed (Brian Rupnows design) Beam engine and a Webster IC Engine. Being a relative newbee, both have been a challenge, but have throughly enjoyed the challenge and learning curve. The learning curve has been, in no small part, due to all of you. Your tips and tricks...

    My completed Flame Engine

My 3rd post and 2nd completed engine which actually runs!!! Not for too long though. Admittedly almost every part was made twice but then, I'm still learning and had lots of fun making it. I am so relieved it actually runs. Being a newbie, this has done heaps for my confidence in this hobby...

    Workshop Damp/humidity

I can sympathise, coming from Tasmania. I recently built a (fully insulated) workshop inside my shed, painted the walls with enamel paint (to seal the moisture coming through the walls), laid vinyl on the floor (to seal moisture coming through the concrete) and purchased a decent/expensive...
