    May Project of the Month

Wow Pete! When can I come over for a play date? People ask me what my engines do. You can actually show them. I showed your Loco to my girlfriend and her daughters. They exclaimed in unisen, "It's A Choo Choo"! Alan

    Chain Hook

I have been waiting for our resident mathematician to give you a proverbial slap for not using his sphere program.

    Engine Number Two

So far, so good Jan, I see that you only used three jaws on your chuck to hold your wooden block. That "could" end up being a problem and "would" have if it was me doing it. Murphy's Law is always my partner in crime. Two option that I would consider would be to screw the block to a face...

    New Trick

I have a set filed down for just such occasions. They work well. Especially the 0 an 00. I don't know if anyone has seen a posi-drive phillips screw. I know I haven't, but I have a set of drivers for them too. The drivers work well on standard phillips when you can't get straight on them. Alan

    I'm missing some teeth.

I have been told that a lathe is the only machine that can build itself... It is becoming increasingly true with our heirloom machinery. alan

    I'm missing some teeth.

I like Daves idea. It's not a shear load and pinned to the pulley ought to be plenty strong. The bull gear on my 618 pins to the pulley set which happens to be worn. This gives me an idea to bore the four holes and press in some bronze bushings. If I ever get a hair up my ___ over it.

I'm reminded of what I don't like about Woodworking!

I try to do my woodworking in the driveway or the back patio. That way I can use the leaf blower to clean up. Alan

    I really wish I had...

... more skill in the "layout" department. The tiny scale of these projects are really putting me to the test. Things that have helped: a) recently puchased a dial height gage b) truing points on scribes and center punches c) constant switching from prescription glasses, to cheap reading...

    Apprentice toolbox

I have been thinking about adding another box to accompany my fathers Craftsman machinist box. You would think I have enough tool storage... A Mac roll away with a Snap-On road chest in the garage... In the shop there is a General Tools three piece set, the Craftsman machinist box, various tote...
