    Gear cutting question.

I bought the Wife a battery powered chainsaw for Christmas. She loves it. ;) The drive pinion broke the teeth off. I tried to buy a new gear and no spare parts are made for this model. About 4 months old. I would like to cut a gear and have never done one yet. The dimensions are .748 OD X 17...

    Gear Train Retainers

There are clips that have a square tab that sticks out and the ends are bent slightly to provide pressure. Will take a look but sounds like something sold by the thousands. Will update if found.

    Deep Drilling In aluminum block

What I have heard is that when the part revolves the drill will try to center itself up on the axis of the part. Makes sense. When the drill turns it will center itself up on it's axis. Gundrilling uses the best of both methods.

Need sage advise of truing up Bridgeport style vertical mill.

Raising the table will show the difference in tilt or nod in the quill. Put an indicator on the wuill and try it. I use the horizontal beam method as it sweeps a circle as wide as the table or wider if I wish.

    Experimental Flash Steam and others

I returned the VFD with no problems. My experience with Far East sellers is that the quality may not always be there but the service has been top notch, of course I remain polite and do not "loose it."

I bought a Huanyang Vfd and it would not save the settings I entered. Went with rotary converter.

    Poor mans slotting head

Rotary broaches do not need clearance at the bottom of the hole. Was in a shop that rotary broached 1/2" holes about 1/2 " deep in 17-4 SS, no clearance hole allowed . Chips were a pain to break off.

Dry milling aluminum in general and 5154 in the hobby

Kerosene works as do WD40, any type of penetrating oil as can be found in yard sales, flea markets, discount stores. The air is to keep the tool " dirty" as a clean and dry cutting edge will pick up Aluminum easily.

Dry milling aluminum in general and 5154 in the hobby

Aluminum build up on cutting tools should be easily removed with a cut on a piece of steel. Another solution would be drain cleaner. (See what I did there?)

    Cutting fluids

I have misted both black cutting oil and Trim mist 77. I have no problems with either in a 16'x16' shop that is fairly tight. The black cutting oil is for a heavy duty slotting operation that is 3/8" deep x .052" wide in 303 stainless steel. The Trim mist is only used a couple of times a year...

    Model Engine Ignitions

Years ago I built a high voltage coil from a Radio Shack (remember them) kit. It did improve the idle quality. I happened to brush My hand across a plug wire while the engine was idling and woke up laying on the ground.
