    3D CAD and Model Engineering

I'm also a Alibre user form day one. Found a big error in the Holt 75 paper drawings I have. Would of found it when I build the engine but maybe not until I had made a rather costly mistake machining. Dave

    Martin Models

When you do a part count and all the machining and fitting that has to happen I think you would have to work 24 hours a day and then I don't think you'll get it done in a week end. :o Dave

Yes In the QUORN Universal tool and cutter grinder book by Professor D H Chaddock the designer of the Quorn on the last 2 pages of the book he shows the head on a lathe tool post and on a vert mill being used as a surface grinder. Holt

Is it possible that this is the Holt tractor that Jasonb in post #19 posted a link to. The photos were taken at the 2011 GEARS show in Portland Oregon. I have flipped back and fourth between my photos and the ones in the link. I think I can see the same crinkle in the roofing on the front left...

    Scrap Cast Aluminum Engine Block

Melt that puppy down and cast lots of new stuff from it. Old cast aluminum makes good stock for casting new parts with. Easiest way to get it to small enough pieces for your crucible is build a nice hot fire around it after taking all the steel out of it you can. There is a temp called hot shot...

    Machining techniques for castings

Finding the steps in machining a raw casting can be fun. Here are a couple of shots of a casting for a gear box for a Zdrive we are developing. It took three set ups to get to this point. Have at least three more before it is finished. Dave

    Hot Water Heater Furnace

Bovine I think you have your cubic inches per cubic feet wrong. 12X12X12 =1728 cubic inches per cubic foot. When I run the numbers I come up with .69 cubic feet for top and bottom and .92 cubic feet for body. Dave

    My overengineered 3d printer

PLA is a PITA. pla will swell when heated and if you stop the print for any reason and do not lower your hot end temp the heat migrates up your teflon tube and swells the pla causing a blockage. Easy answer is change to ABS and a heated bed. A good forum on 3D printing is here...

    MAN Diesel engine from 1907 "DM 2 * 100"

Nick Did a search on those end mills. Expensive is an under statement I think you could buy gold cheaper but it does not make a very good end mill. I think I am working with small end mills at 3/32" but they are giants by comparison. Dave

    Tormach PCNC 1100 should I??

When you get the mill do not trust your ears and eyes for speeds and feeds. Get a copy of Gwizard and plug in all the data to figure out the best feed and speed for that end mill and material. Also invest in machinable wax for doing test runs. You can save a $20 end mill if your Gcode does not...
