Werowance, looking at your in-process photo it appears that the material was polished before you applied the scotchbrite. Did this help achieve the results you got?

    MyfordBoy's traction engine

Green Twin: I have a personal philosophy that feedback is a gift and I thank you for your comments / suggestions. As part of my retirement (effective Jan 2, 2025) plan, I wanted to become more active on this forum and I have. Prior to this I think I have only posted once or twice. I say this to...

    Movie Mechanics Spoiler Syndrome

Hoping this falls into the WHATEVER category per forum description :) I do not have a degree in mechanical engineering but I have always had a fair amount of mechanical aptitude. Understanding how mechanical things work has always been easy for me (unlike electronics where there are no visible...

Welcome to the forum Wolf! Although I am not what one would consider new to the forum, my participation up til now has been almost nonexistent. What free time I had was spent in the workshop. However, as of 1/2/25 I too am retired and plan to become more engaged as a way to get the most out of...

Mini Mill Tune Up And Power Feed

I have been kicking around ideas for a low cost power feed on my mini mill for a year or so. The AC to DC transformer has been the main stumbling block. If I might ask-how many amps does your charger produce and how does it hold up under extended usage?

Thank you! I will definitely give it a try.

Mini Mill Tune Up And Power Feed

Will definitely be following this one! I have pondered something similar but was unsure about how to power a DC motor.

Just now noticed your avatar photo....That is absolutely stunning! I tried the "engine turning" effect on my base but just wasnt consistent enough on the finish. Did you use an abrasive?

    Sound advice indeed!

Absolutely! The traction engine has been especially so-it has a nice mixture of machining / tin work / soldering to keep my interest.

    posting my builds....finally

Having many, many years as a pipe welder I figured soldering would be a piece of cake.....not so! I recently purchased a Sievert torch and plan to use it on the horizontal boiler for my Stuart beam engine after the traction engine is finished. Im thinking it will get better heat soak than the...

Multi piece as I did not have the correct thickness. Oddly enough I had been following your progress on the traction engine as motivation to keep me plodding along with mine. I will post some progress photos soon. Although photos of the boiler will be limited due to horrid soldering job:eek: ...

Ive been a member for some time but not very active- work / life / more work ect. Having recently retired, one of my goals is to participate more; sharing, learning, and enjoying the hobby. Attached photos (hopefully) show my first 2 builds from a couple years ago. The one on the left is Philip...
