1/16" Allen wrenches rounding off corners

You can, of course. simply grind of the rounded portion an you are good to go. Might consider going to a larger dia. set screw to get a more robust screw socket.

Inspired build of the Benz 1886 Engine

Looks good to me! What kind of paint or was it powder coat?

    Aluminum bar stock for pistons

Pertha, Thanks for posting the reference to the Model Engine Tests! I really enjoyed the ones I have read. Reminds me of the high school library where I would love to read Peter Chinn's review of model engines in Model Airplane News. I found the review of the supercharged OS engine...

    Timing mystery

Gordon, You are correct, must have had a brain cramp. Does not help your situation though. Any possibility of a measuring error??

    Timing mystery

I hope some others chime in here on this apparent mystery! I'd especially like to hear from some Hoglet builders on what degree spacing they used on the ignition magnets. Hope this does not hijack the original thread to much but may shed some light on that situation too.

    Timing mystery

Following this with interest. Building the Hoglet which is a 21 degree twin. The timing diagram calls for the magnets to be at 159 degrees apart. Not sure how to arrive at this timing except 180 minus 21=159

    Prusa XL 3D Printer

Has anybody tried automotive spot putty? Usually comes in a tube like toothpaste, red. No mixing and sands very well.

Time for a new Horizontal Hit and Miss engine

Take a look at a full size engine, you only need an adjuster on one end.

Casting Kits I would like to see For Sale Again

Don't know if its been mentioned but weight becomes an issue as we age. I built a number of larger engines but boxed up and ready to transport they weigh +/- 40#s. The smaller ones I now build are easily lifted by on hand! I think the smaller engines are fussy to build and run but worth it.

What paint to use on Workshop floor?

Some years ago I painted my concrete shop floor with bright red epoxy. I had read somewhere that it was a good color because it made it easy to spot dropped parts. It was kind of cheery too. Problem was it showed dusty foot prints in excess. I ended up repainting with a beige like my dirt...

    Another Edwards 5 Radial

I like the looks of your tank. Over the years I have made some plastic tanks, some crazed some did not. Since it was scrap plastic I've wondered what type of plastic holds up to fuel?

Cutting a cam with radiused flanks

Brian, You don't need a left hand cutting tool. The tool is facing the center instead of the usual outward orientation. The mill is run in reverse to make the tool cut as it should. Randall was a good friend and though he explained this method to me several times it just did not click so I...

Cutting a cam with radiused flanks

Brian, Randall's method was described in Model Engine Builder issue 11 re. the Hoglet. Issue 10 was the beginning of the build article. In MEB issue 7 William Wilkens described the method in more detail.

    Will look it up tomorrow.

Cutting a cam with radiused flanks

Brian, Interesting method. At it's heart is it different than the method Randall Cox described in building the Hoglet cams. I recently tried Randall's method and agree with his assertion it is a quick way to make a cam with a boring head in the mill turning backward and rotating an inward...

    Jerry Howell V-twin build questions

Andrew, Does it run? Any video?? Thanks, John

    Valve timing

if it were mine and out of ideas, I'd get the overlap down to 0. Overlap is great on high speed engines but models in my experience are happy with very mild cams. Why keep the intake open 45 degrees after bdc? Do you feel a pulse outward on the carb?

    Drill press motor swap

Don, Very interesting. I will look forward to any work arounds you or others come up with. Great idea.

    Pin vices and valve lapping

Late to the party but I've had good luck just slipping a short piece of fuel hose over the end of the valve and spinning with my fingers or the drill press while pulling back slightly. Also does away with alignment problems.
