Cutting oils What do you use?

I use Snake Venom from Grizzly? It is highly recommended by gunsmiths doing chamber work.

My new project ...Small diesel engine .

Notice the Chinese are selling a small 30cc single cylinder diesel. Maybe you could buy just the injector and pump or buy the whole thing and reverse engineer it.

    Sleeve questions

Agree with Mike! Use cast iron for liner.

Vertical 4 cycle engine from recycled parts

Looked at my easily accessible version and the plug is vertical, I'm no expert on Gravelys and since spending my time on models I don't remember much. They were rated at 7.6 hp and had a long stroke and good torque, relatively at low rpm. Another advantage of the T head was a cross flow...

Vertical 4 cycle engine from recycled parts

I for one was tickled to see Gravelys discussed. I've rebuilt 6 or seven and have a collection of 7 or 8. The old T head models have a full pressure oil system that supplies the engine and the trans axle. I consider them the Rolls Royce of american walk behind tractors. The only belt is a...

Vertical 4 cycle engine from recycled parts

The advantage of a t head is the valves are widely spaced and some valve overlap is feasable???

    Bore Gauge

Thanks for all the input! After much consideration I've decided to buy a dial gauge of ebay. Sort of an excuse to get more tools-will be my Christmas present from my wife. Will report on results when I have some.

    1898 Nash Two Cylinder Build

Try gluing them on with super glue and when happy with timing pin them. Works for me.

    COX TWIN 049x2

Very cool!! MEB magazine ran an article on building a 3 or 4 cylinder version using a ZMAC crank housing. Very useful info on making ZMAC molds from aluminum.

Bob, Do you coat the steel molds before casting so the al. doesn't stick to the steel mold??

    Bore Gauge

I have been using a telescoping bore gauge for a while but don't trust my ability for accurate repeat measurements. I am looking for a bore gauge in the range of 0.7" to 1.375". Quite a few options on Amazon etc. for around $100. Not willing to pay for premium quality, $300 versions. Can...

    1898 Nash Two Cylinder Build

Congratulations on a great looking crank shaft. I've made a few and like the process and results.. One thing I don't care for is the solder creeping onto the bearing surfaces. Any one know of a way to prevent this ala Whiteout to stop lead solder from flowing where not wanted? Last crank I...

Electric Starter System for Model Engines

I like the ability esp. at a show to push a button and start the engines, without jumping up and fumbling around with a drill. Done well the starter adds realism and interest to the model IMHO. Each to their own.

Flywheel becoming loose (setscrew is used)

Another option to fix something to rotating shaft is the Shaftloc device from SDP/SI. I used them to fix the timing belt pulleys on an overhead cam engine and they made timing very easy and sure. Also used them on electric starter clutches. They are pricey but very nice.

Electric Starter System for Model Engines

Agree with Grasshopper. The prices you had to pay for pulleys and belts are outrageous! I have used quite a few G2 pulleys and belts. I don't know how things work getting stuff from overseas but can you take a look at Temu, aliexpress, and other Chinese suppliers? Ebay is a good source as...

Electric Starter System for Model Engines

Tried two of those and they melted with 12 Volts. Maybe ok at 110 volts. The small 12 V motors from drills etc draw a lot of current, maybe 30 amps.
