Suggestions for a first IC engine?

Like you say Chris there is alot of info now about the Kerzel, so this would be ok to start with. Theres also the webster with free plans available and a few others. It all depends on what size engine you want to make, they are all pretty straight forward and all work virtually the same way with...

    1/3 scale Galloway construction

Very nice indeed, this is an engine I would like to get hold of and have a go at myself, so will be watching for the finished item. Castings look nice to machine aswell. Cheers, MartinH

    Hit and miss levers

I have just nipped out to the workshop and found a drawing from the little Amanco that shows the layout for you Brian. Sorry I don`t have a scanner but you should be able to see from the pic the info you need. The marks in red are where the spring goes and the thumbscrew is for the adjustment...

    Hit and miss levers

Brian, the small spring on the detent lever as mentioned as fit to the Upshur may not help you. It goes between the detent lever and somewhere on the frame to aid pushing the detent lever off to allow the engine to `hit`. This may make your problem worse as it is another spring that you will...

    Hit and miss levers

Hello Brian, Here are acouple of things to try. Firstly try running with only one of the springs on the bob weights, this should prove if your spring tension is too much. Another point I have found is that if I adjust the flywheel position, with the bob weights fully retracted in the inward...

    Something to drive ??

Thanks to all for the support, it really helps keep the motivation going. I just tidied up a few bits today as I wanted to get on with my air cooled amanco model. While having a well deserved coffee and a nice piece of cake, I was looking at the pump and think that it is such a nice model that I...

    Something to drive ??

Thanks Pat, it has all gone better than I thought, and with the help you gave on 2d cad there could be some drawings appear at a later date if anyone wants them. They will need a good check through first though, I`m sure to make a few mistakes on the drawings :P Cheers, MartinH

    Something to drive ??

Well I managed to get back in the workshop today after the big freeze. A long day today but alot of the smaller jobs were completed. The crank arm for the opposite side of the big gear was machined from some suitable flat bar. The top link for the connecting arms was made, together with the...

    DraftSight - Free 2D CAD

Thats excellent thanks Pat. Will give it a go later this evening and let you know how I get on. I am starting to enjoy using this program, think it`s because someone has given pointers on the way to go with it , rather than fumbling around getting nowhere fast. Cheers, MartinH

    Carlisle + Finch restoration- Babbitt

What a superb looking little engine. Great work on restoring it to its former glory. Do you know what year this was manufactured? I have a full size air cooled Amanco that needs the bearings pouring, been putting it off for ages. Living in Carlisle, UK I would love to find one of these. Cheers...

    DraftSight - Free 2D CAD

Thanks for all the tutorials, I am a complete numpty when it comes to CAD, give me a pencil and a cigarette packet any day!!. I have been trying extra hard and have managed to get a few of the basic parts for the pump I am doing as cad drawings. The problem I cannot grasp is all the parts are...

    Diy Ignition

I use the l-cheapo one all the time. It gives a good spark at 6v using a small motorbike coil. I have used it with both the hall effect switch and with conventional points no problem at all. Cheers, MartinH

    Flywheel mounting options.

At the place I work we tend to use a tapered locking bush most of the time now. The forces these things can take are excellent, no more need for keys. This is a link to the type of thing I mean, yes you can make them but at the price these are is it worth it...

    Laser edge finder

I bought one of these quite some time ago. I can honestly say that I do not use it much, I tend to use my starret edge finder most of the time, in conjunction with my DRO centre facility. Saying that it does have its uses, like picking up on cst parts and hole centre pops. Cheers, MartinH

    Something to drive ??

Thanks Hobby, theres a few parts that I cannot get a good measurement on from the drawing so I`m having to work round those parts as I go along, while trying to keep the overall look correct. Cheers, MartinH

    Something to drive ??

Thanks Gail, once I get my teeth into something I`m like a terrier, don`t like to put it down till its finished with :P Well today I seem to have been at it for hours with not much to show. The main reason for this is I had to use my dreaded rotary table, I do not know why I dislike using this...

    Something to drive ??

I managed to sneek a bit more time on the pump today. The piston was turned up out of a piece of brass and the ball and seat installed. I had to go and buy :o, yes thats right buy, a piece of stainless rod for the piston rod, £4.50 for one metre of 6mm round bar, this projects getting way over...

Flywheel patterns for the Upshur farm engine

George, is it ok to use car filler for the fillets, I fancy having a go at some patterns for the pump I am making, but I have never made a pattern before. Yours look excellent and have spurred me on to maybe have a go. Cheers, MartinH
