    Stirling engine helicopter

If this project is going alive, I already have a few parts ready.

    Stirling engine helicopter

That's one disadvantage of a Stirling engine. For a engine to be powerful enough to drive a vehicle you need a rather large and heavy engine. There are enough working versions in the world. Stirling engines can be found in satellites also in submarines, even as small...

    Stirling engine helicopter

I made one in the past together with my pupils, that was about six years ago. When I retired I was allow to take one of my projects home with me as gift. Except the helicopter. The school's manager said it was way to beautiful to give away. Thinking back, I still regret it. That's one of the...

Autodesk Fusion 360 or other free software?

The best way to secure your drawings is to export them all in STP or STEP format. Not to be used as your standard files of course. If you do not own CAD software or for whatever reason you are forced or need to switch to other CAD software, well, STEP / STEP can be imported in all existing CAD...

    Software in the cloud

Long thread, didn't read it all. I'm a Linux user too. Mint 18.3, stopped using Wintendo after W7. About Linux , but BaronJ and a few others said all, it's all free. But most important Linux has all software on board, also for free. The only thing, not running in Linux, I need is Autodesk...

Autodesk Fusion 360 or other free software?

Do not use online CAD software. After a while they will charge you. You can download a Autodesk Inventor student version. It's free but it has a few restrictions. But nothing to worry about. As I said before : VERY power full.

Autodesk Fusion 360 or other free software?

I use Autodesk Inventor, a very old one. I have a personal license from my old employer. But that does the job for me, in fact it has a zillion times more functions on board then I'll ever need. Very powerfull..! When I was still working at school I drew and built a complete scale-model railway...

    Definite Blunder

When I was still teaching, my motto OF COURSE was safety first ...ALWAYS..! When my pupils were busy working with a drill-press they had to wear hairbands. Sometimes they forgot them in their locker. My answer to that was : they had to wear one of mine. I had a few in stock just in case. Only...

    Definite Blunder

The are a few pictures on the net showing someone completely wrapped around a (big)lathe's chuck. It's not a pretty sight AT ALL...! If you go and look for them, you have been warned...! Before I start my mill I always think twice and I also look for some loose parts on the bed. Chris

Make a 72 tooth worm gear without indexing?

First of all I would consider using a thicker tap, say M6 like I did. M4 is to thin imo, it cannot handle that kind of strain. Keep in mind to use brass for the wormwheel. There's no way you can make a steel wormwheel using the technique mentioned above. Maybe if you can find a way to support...

    Power hacksaw

It is indeed a reciprocating saw I'm thinking of. I will use the classical 300mm(12") long blade. I don't need to add a reduction because this unit has an output of about 105rpm. That's about the speed I was aiming for. But to be on the save side I'm planning on reducing it's speed electronically.

While I was testing it there was no load at all.

    Power hacksaw

Hi Planning to build a power hacksaw. I would use a windscreen wiper motor to drive this hacksaw. Just bought this motor in UK but problem is after after some time this motor gets very hot, and I mean HOT. Only way to keep it cool during a long (free)run is to install a 80 or 120 mm fan...
