    New guy, first build

I'm sure it's a great video, but it is marked as private, so I cannot see it.

    really neat video

Don't show Brian Rupnow, he'll be building every single one of those before you can bat an eyelid! ;D

    machining stainless

I had to machine some slots with radiused ends in some 304 today. What a pain. As I had no rotary table, the ends had to be drilled out with a 11/16 drill -- no fun! I started the hole with a 1/8" pilot. And enlarged it a bit. And finally brought it out to size with a 11/16 bit. Oh, my...

    Lasers as measuring/locating devices

You could even do a quadrature encoder with laser references.

    Lasers as measuring/locating devices

I use lasers as optical endstops for all sorts of things. I also use them as pointers. I've made small laser range sensors, but was never able to get much more than 0.01" repeatability. However, I could probably do better with better data filtering. Tin: Laser mice wouldn't do to well for a...

    Sterling speed-build.

Wow, well that sure was fast. I'm astounded. It won't run on a cup of hot water? Will it run on something hotter? Do we get a nice finished picture?

    Saw stop debate.

I could be wrong, but I believe the court case that is the lead cause fr this legislation is as follows: Ryobi had been considering a deal with SawStop. It never happened. Some idiot purchases a Ryobi table saw from Home Depot. He cuts himself. He sues both the Home Depot and Ryobi for...

    Saw stop debate.

I couldn't agree more. According to SawStop FAQ, lightly damp wood is OK. Past that, you need to put the saw in bypass mode so you don't trigger it. I wonder how long it will be until someone sues because they cut themselves while safety was bypassed...

    Saw stop debate.

This strikes me as wrong for a number of reasons. There are a lot of good companies out there that make fantastic saws. Some of these aren't exactly sawstop compatible. I did a lot of work on a Holz-Her sliding table saw. Loved that thing, but there's no way in hell it would work with a saw...

Another mystery attachment for my Hercus- can someone help?

Yup. It's an adjustable stop. An indexable one like that is indispensable when doing multiples of the same part. You can do well without it, but once you've used one, you never want to do without.

    Unicorn log splitter

    Odd.... I like it.

Good and cheap sound level meter

Looks like with the product Tin posted, your job would be relatively easy. Write a logging script that communicates with the SPL meter and you can record until your computer runs out of hard drive space. That would be very easy to do in python, for example. Python also has a number of good...

YABH -- Yet Another Boring Head

A quick side note: I'm making the arbor out of 12L14 steel. And dang, that stuff is awesome. I mean, dang. The shank came out better than anything I've ever turned. I was doing 55 SFM, at 0.002 in/rev for a finishing pass, followed by a quick swipe with some red scotch-brite dipped in WD-40 to...

    Another Scotty video

I love the theme that you carry across your builds. The brass and green paint, decorative pockets on the cylinders. Oh yeah, and it runs nicely too.

    High speed CNC spindle

That's just pretty. I mean, really. You've done an amazing job.

YABH -- Yet Another Boring Head

I would do that, but it is designed to fit on a Sherline mill. Then again, I'm making two, one of which is for my mill, so I may try that on this one. Thanks for the idea.

YABH -- Yet Another Boring Head

What else could it be? A really big piston, a pencil holder for a threaded pencil, a heavy object to throw at protests, a shiny object to distract me... I always find that I never have the right material for the random bit I want to make in the scrap bin. I guess I'm on my way to fixing that. :P

YABH -- Yet Another Boring Head

Part 4 -- http://tinyworkshop.org/tools/building-a-boring-head-part-4/ A failure, and a stupid one at that. I really need to check my numbers more carefully before I start working. Lesson learned, and at least it's good internal threading practice. Back to square 1.
