    Swing Up Threading Tool

A post a while back about a Swing Up Treading Tool stuck in my mind. So when it became time to thread the neck of the ER collet chuck I built this week, I made a temporary version of it. Along with the ability to instant reverse my little lathe, and it's variable speed capability (the Treadmill...

attempting to build a ER Collet Chuck

I finally got the collet set that I ordered, took almost three weeks but with a little pressuring I finally got the ebay seller to come up with one. Then I had to make one of those little "swing up threading tools" that I saw on here (I think it was here) to cut the metric threads on the neck. I...

    Oregon Steam Up 2010

Thanks macona for the video. I didn't go to Brooks this year, my hip is given me fits and it would be too much walking. I think I could listen to those old hit and miss engines run all day long. I'll bet it was plenty warm there. Thanks again Mel

    Repair Bandsaw Blades

Ron, I made the little jig, broke a saw blade, ground the ends, silver soldered the blade back together, cleaned it up and put in on the saw and it worked great. Thanks for the TIP. Now all I have to do is drill a hole in the jig so I can hang it up. ;D Thanks Mel

    Repair Bandsaw Blades

I like this. I'm going to go out to the shop now and make one of the jigs that you show and hang it on the wall. Now the problem is, in all the years I have been using my 4X6 HF band saw (20 years) I have never broken a blade, I've put a serious dull on a few blades and have worn out a bunch of...

    Classic cars

When you mentioned Danbury Mint, I took a closer look at some of my cars and they Danbury all except one which is a Frankland mint car. I could not find if they are made by one another. they are all well made and very detailed. Mel

    Classic cars

That brought back some fond memories. I think the cars from the fifties where the greatest cars ever built. They had character. I think I've had about a third of those shown. I would imagine that the models where from the Franklin Mint collection. I have several of the Franklin mint cars and...

ksouers, with your R8 chuck for your mill, you have the collets and the nut to hold them in, now all you need is a fixture to hold the collets and attaches to your lathe. Mel

attempting to build a ER Collet Chuck

A resent visit to GadgetBuilder's web site prompted me to attempt building a ER 32 collet chuck for my C6 Grizzly lathe, similar to the one he made. I've been wanting to buy a R8 quick change collet set for my X3 mill for some time now, so I ordered one the other evening from Discount Machine on...

    I motorized the "Z" of my X3

I’ve been thinking about adding a motorized drive to the “Z” action of my Grizzly X-3 Milling machine for some time now. I’ve counted the turns it takes to move the head up or down, say 6 “and it’s 120 or 20 turns per inch. And there is no reason why I shouldn’t power it. The mill has an X-Y...

    Spherical Cutter

Steve, your ball turning tool is the best one I've seen as yet. I like the way you have made it easy to adjust. Is there any chance you would disassemble it and take some more photos of the parts and post them. Not that we would copy it, but just get a better understanding of it's workings. ;D...

    Rolling uphill

Great looking thingy, I was planning on starting to make one of those this very afternoon. I had seen it in the last issue of Home Shop Machinist. I really like the display platform you made and also the blunt ends of the cone. Looks a lot safer than the one in the magazine. And another use of...

Sanding / polishing / buffing station

I adapted a motor very much like yours to run my lathe. Having the varible speed on the lathe is the greatest thing since sliced bread! I've been looking for uses for the other two motors I have and your idea gives me some ideas. I think one will go one the drill press and the other for a...
