    Elmer's Wobbler #25

Cool! Merry Christmas, and enjoy your holiday!

    Elmer's Wobbler #25

But your bottom diagram shows a counterbore as well - I think that surface should just be a plain hole, otherwise flush to the cylinder. I'm going from memory (often a bad idea), I'll have to check. Your top diagram looks like a countersink to me rather than a counterbore. EDIT: Yes, the...

    Elmer's Wobbler #25

Nice work there - but I notice that your pivot hole is still being machined from the wrong side of the frame. The counterbore should be the other side to the cylinder. What solid modelling program are you using out of interest? Is it solidworks?

    Carburettors are Beautiful

And some pictures: For fun - a set of Dellorto side drafts: Report this image Carburettor manufacturers always have such wonderful names. Dellorto, Bing, Amal, Stromberg. They sound like James Bond villains. In fact, I think Stromberg was. A few views of my beautiful flat...

    Carburettors are Beautiful

I wrote this little spiel for a motorcycle forum I am a member of. I thought some of you chaps might enjoy it too. ;D I am in the process of bringing my beloved 1994 ZX1100 Ninja back online. Part of the process has been a very thorough strip and clean of the bank of 4 carburettors. The ZX1100...

    Opinions on a milling machine

I'm definitely going to keep my ear to the ground on that - if I can find a used machine in good order that would be the best scenario of course. In the meantime I'll zero in on an alternative, and just keep my options open. Seems like the price of Bridgeports fluctuates a fair bit. Last time I...

    Opinions on a milling machine

Thanks all - this has all been really good input. Although my mind is not yet made up, a lot more info has come to light to help me choose. Final decision will be driven by $$s available when the time comes of course, but the other factors are easier to weigh up too. Thm:

    Opinions on a milling machine

I do like Grizzly for their service. It is no nonsense and straightforward. I see Travers have a similar mill to the Bolton Hardware tool - basically the Grizzly / Sieg mill, but with a manual crank to raise the head, and six speeds instead of variable speed. Basically it comes down to do I...

    Opinions on a milling machine

Well looky here - a review of the Sieg version of the mill. http://www.mini-lathe.com/Mini_mill/Reviews/SX4/sx4-rvw.htm To be honest - a pretty good looking machine. Boy I love researching machine tools. EDIT! D'oh - beaten to it. Thanks Mulac!

    Opinions on a milling machine

Hey Craig - thanks! I like the look of that. One of the things I kept saying to myself when reviewing the Grizzly was "I think this is great, and if I could get one with a manual lift on the head it would be a bunch cheaper and I could run 220V" - which is exactly what the machine in your link...

    Opinions on a milling machine

A good point. This is the most economical turret mill that Grizzly offer (just one purchasing option of course) http://www.grizzly.com/products/9-x-42-Vertical-Mill-w-Power-Feed/G9901 And it comes in at about $5800 US with shipping. It is certainly a lot of machine - I don't see ever...

    Opinions on a milling machine

Hello everyone. I am hoping to be in a position to obtain a vertical milling machine in 2013 - sometime in the first quarter with a bit of luck. Since I am planning on the acquisition, I am naturally all excited and starting to look at possibilities. I have been doing a bit of research, and...

    Accuracy on the lathe

Holy moly! What a great and simple idea - I will be rigging something like this up for sure. I can see some dimensional improvements coming quite quickly with this technique. Big thumbs up! Thm:

    Never,ever give up!

One thing I had never done was grind my own HSS bits, until very recently. I found a very nice tutorial from Sherline that talks you through making a cutting bit from an HSS blank. This matter of fact and straightforward guide was really helpful. I am sure it has been referenced on this site...

    Elmer's #33 - a novice makes chips

Hi Thayer! Your engine is really excellent. I cannot offer any advice on the machining aspects, but I can maybe help a little with the pictures. I think you are "attaching" the images, right? In order to embed the pictures into your text, so that you can write text before and after the...
