    Double acting Double Oscillator

Thank you Brian, As usual an excellent and informative posting. One thing that I am wondering, does the engine still run in reverse? I'm sure it did previously and cannot see why it would not with the governor. thanks again for posting. John B

    Double acting Double Oscillator

Great model and a fascinating action Brian. The action does not get any clearer (to me anyway) looking at this video of a real one in action here or here where I noticed an inset coloured pic of one. http://newsm.org/steam/almond-right-angle-drive/ John B

    Double acting Double Oscillator

Thanks for posting this interesting project Brian. Initially I wondered if putting the pulley outboard of the frame would mess up the cylinder / piston alignment then looked back at the previous drawing. Where I see that you have simply replaced the original spacer with the pulley a nice, simple...

    Double acting Double Oscillator

Excellent job Brian, Only thing I missed hearing was what the pressure was you had it running in the finish? Seemed very low to me and that is always the challenge I think with these engines. Here is a video of my attempt at Elmer's H Twin I referred to earlier and I apologize in advance...

Rudy Kouhoupt's Open Column Steam Engine - Cast & Double Size

Looks like a seam driven engine, sounds like a steam engine (old paddle steamer comes to mind). I do prefer the sound it made on air but that may just be the position of the microphone and where it was recorded. Either way is is a jolly good effort, so congrats.

Brian, It's a bit late, but you can download plans for Elmer Verberg's #9 H Twin from http://www.john-tom.com/html/ElmersEngines.html. You might like to have a look anyway. This was a club challenge at my local model engineering club last year and a fun build for novices like me...

    Good Old Aussie Post

And privatizing OZ Post was supposed to streamline deliveries? Fluffy, I gotta agree with you regarding stuff from the UK getting here in 6-7 and another parcel ordered the same day from northern NSW someplace took 14. I did check the date the supplier posted it - day after I ordered so who's...

    Marking Out Plate

I use a 1.5" or 40mm water resistant laminated kitchen sink cutout from when our kitchen tops were updated recently. It suits my needs and won't shatter with the inevitable dropped steel. :D There are two old glass scanner platens patiently awaiting their turn should my expertise improve...

Project of the Month - July 2016

Congrats from me too Tony. I went to the restoration thread and you surely had a project ahead of you. Well executed and recorded. Thanks for sharing. John B

What have you been up to?

Hi Rod, Blast, Today I had a head drop on my mill with a fly cutter attached. Resulting in busted transmission gears. Lookls like an upgrade to the belt drive is next and I have no mill to make my own so think I will buy a aconversion kit. Looking at this on ebay...

What have you been up to?

So anyway, I got an email from the HMEM asking me this question as I have not logged in for a while. My time has been taken up with family stuff mostly, but in my little workshop AKA Shed I am in the process of fitting gas struts to my X2 mill loosely following this link (...

I knocked it off the bench

Oops! guess many of us have done something similar - the pain seem to me to be the thought of all the work and time spent then in a few seconds,???? Today I stripped the 5mm thread from a copper exhaust on a model. No sweat, jsut drill out the bad bit and redo. Yeah Right! :o Slipped and...
