Yes, I used the compound slide to move the tool inward. I realize now that I was trying to chunk off too big a bite at one time. I was lulled into it because the outside cut was also a large cut using almost the whole side of the insert and so I thought the inside taper cut would go the same...
I used two new procedures for the first time today on my lathe. Taper turning, and boring. My goal was to make a funnel for a smokestack.
All went really well, for awhile. I was feeling pretty good about it all. Then all heck broke loose.
While trying to do a taper turn on the inside of the...
I have one new M5 x 710 v-belt for the HF 9x20 lathe. Supposed to fit the other brands as well, Grizzly, etc.
My HF 9x20 lathe came with a defective belt and it broke shortly after getting the lathe. The info I got was that it took a 5x710 belt so I ordered two. Well the 710 belt would barely...
Hi Bill,
I'm sorry but I don't quite understand your question. Actually, I don't understand a lot about my machines. :big:
Here is the website for the company that makes this micro machine, perhaps that may help?

I just read through all 26 pages of this thread. What a fine assortment of lathes you all have. The Monarch's are Art Deco beauties! All the old American lathes are like going to a vintage car show, really cool stuff! ;D
Here are my two lathes. The first is a tiny Shunde Shine micro lathe. It...
Quick question needing an answer:
I want to go around once more on an item I brazed, so that I can make a more aesthetically pleasing fillet.
Do I:
1) Brush on flux first, then heat and apply braze rod
2) Just heat and apply brazing rod on top of the old braze
Thanks!
I want to thank those of you posting in here. :)
I have not had good luck getting smooth finishes on various metals I have turned on my lathe. After reading this thread and looking at some of the charts, I was machining some bronze and was getting a crappy surface finish. Recalling this thread...
My alignment method seems to have paid off. I also installed the scope to verify as suggested.
I just turned a piece of 1.250" brass into a burner port for a boiler and it came out very nice and straight. :)
This is an awesome thread! I have looked at those PMR casting kits and wondered about them. This is the first time I have seen detailed machining photos of one of these kits. I am learning a lot from your photos! Thm:
Of the few long'ish pieces I have tried to machine on my lathe, they have always had some taper to them. I have set the tick marks on my tailstock to "zero" but that has not removed it.
I have never been able to get rid of the taper in my 9x20 lathe. I certainly don't know how it is supposed...
