    Idea's for a Newbie

Here's one for you...... http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/downloads/scraps-and-solder-engine-328.html Maybe some minor machining needed, but with some creativity could be done on a drill press...............

    Scraps and Solder Engine

GENERAL NOTES: ENGINE DESIGN BASED UPON ARTICLE IN THE DECEMBER, 1950 ISSUE OF POPULAR SCIENCE (PAGES 196 and 197). DIMENSIONS: ARE GIVEN IN mm [INCHES]. SCALE IS 1 TO 1 IF PRINTED ON 11" X 17" PAPER (SEE SHEET 3). DRILL SIZE #'s GIVEN AS NEEDED, OTHERWISE FRACTIONAL DRILL SIZES USED...

Scraps and Solder Become an Engine

Happy Holidays Everyone..... My gift to you is the Scraps and Solder measured plans, see attachment. There are a few things I will add to this after the holidays, but if you wanted something to do while waiting you can at least make all the parts. If printed on 11" X 17" paper all drawings...

Scraps and Solder Become an Engine

Quick picture of the SolidWorks Model. Have to figure out the correct valve rod and arm lengths then I will be starting on the 2D drawings.

Scraps and Solder Become an Engine

I am currently modeling and creating drawings for this engine in SolidWorks, I will put the 2D PDF files out here when done as well as some renderings. Using the Popular Science link from above for the base and adding a few improvements along the way to make it easier to build. If there are...

What to do with finished projects?

I donate to local museums, schools, etc. One of my large scale projects, an International Harvester Scout II, is in my trust to be donated to a local airplane group as it was built to honor WWII fighter and Bomber Pilots. I find it more rewarding to let others enjoy my projects than to try to...

    Radial engines

I Googled your question and got....... Four-stroke radials have an odd number of cylinders per row, so that a consistent every-other-piston firing order can be maintained, providing smooth operation. For example, on a five-cylinder engine the firing order is 1, 3, 5, 2, 4 and back to cylinder 1.

    Quarter Scale Merlin V-12

To me, and being "small scale" I would just split the single bearing into 3 bearings.....leave < 0.005" clearance or so between the "rod" and "blade rod" then you will be steel on bronze for all. Also you wont be running the split of the rod cap past the split of the bearing, something that may...

    Quarter Scale Merlin V-12

steel crank moving on bronze bearings = OK Aluminum rod moving on bronze bearing........not so much I suggest every rod has its own bearings so they stay in a fixed position in the rods but move freely on the crank, yes that means 1 bearing set becomes 3 sets, but will work better in the long...

    Parksy's v4

Why did Ford fire left bank right bank, just about every other V4 fires as I stated.......Front left, rear right, rear left rear right, it made balancing the engine easier. Fords Essex V4's have to be externally balanced (via a balance shaft) to achieve that firing order and they were 60 degree...

    PatRoVa Rotary Valve engine

I would like to thank the "Elite" members here who have now ruined this post for me...............your a bunch of bullying keyboard warriors who have nothing better to do than be rude and inconsiderate of others. PatRoVa Rotary Valve engine

What is wrong with you guys......something comes along and you don't understand how it works so you bash a guy................If you don't like it shut up and let the rest of us who "get it" keep reading. I have found this informative, and guess what.....I do "get it".... How does it...

    PatRoVa Rotary Valve engine

Great explanation, thank you........gives me another tool for work. I am a mechanical engineer and use SolidWorks.......its always been a problem with 2D renderings to get the full effect of the look across to others who "don't see as I do". This technique may just be what others need to "see...
