    Powder paint for model engines

I do not have a sandblaster and everything I have powder coated thus far has come out just fine and held up great. I suppose you could sand the part with something like 220 grit to give it some tooth to help adhere, same concept as sandblasting. Again, not really necessary.

    Powder paint for model engines

It's different than painting, the overspray is dry. Your gun operates at very low pressure, the powder comes out "lazy". I doubt you will need a spray booth or box. The overspray falls straight down. A plastic drop cloth or similar for the floor is all I use. The mess is quite...

The powder I used was Prismatic Powders #4431 called "top brass" https://www.prismaticpowders.com/search/4431? Here is the test piece of aluminum bar I did long ago next to a wheel of real brass. And here is the 1/4 aluminum plate of faked brass. All the other pieces are real brass. It...

    Powder paint for model engines

I will get you a couple pics side by side with brass later this morning. I will also look at the powder bag and see if there is a label on it with the part number. I was very pleased with the results BUT if I do more I would use the recommended base coat. Being translucent the brass powder...

    Powder paint for model engines

YES ! I went thru that with one of the gatling guns I built. They are mostly all brass. I needed a 1/4" thick piece about 2ft x 7" and brass was way too expensive. I used prismatic powders brass which is translucent. I polished the aluminum first. Prismatic sells a...

    Straight 6 Cylinder Engine

How are those valve keepers attached to the valves? It is great how the keepers don't interfere with the action of the cam lobe. It appears that valve lash is obtained by careful machining or shaving a bit off the keepers, there is no adjustment, is that correct? I know that some of the...

Cerakote is great stuff but quite expensive. Parts should be sandblasted before application according to the instructions. Thrift stores are a good place to grap a toaster oven cheap. I paid $5 for mine.

I realize you don't have harbor freight available to you but I just ckecked them for a price. $79 Much better than eastwoods $180 https://www.harborfreight.com/search?q=powder coating systems Ebay seems to be $130 US. One on amazon US for $97 that looks identical to the harbor freight...

    Powder paint for model engines

Very interesting article on the homebrew Tribo powder gun ! On the last page it states that Tribo and Corona powders may not be interchangeable. That could be a consideration, powders for Corona guns are by far the most common. I never knew there were different powders for different...

Toaster oven works great for small parts that will fit. Electric stove oven for larger parts. Gas oven is bad idea. NEVER use the kitchen oven, the smell will be there forever !

    Powder paint for model engines

Its been a few years and I am pretty sure I used one of Harbor Freights coupons and of course there is that lovely inflation everywhere. The prices you routinely mention you pay in Canada always shock me. I am sure you would love powder coating, it is actually easier than spray painting.

    Powder paint for model engines

I have the Harbor Freight powder coat package and it works extremely well. It only cost me about $60 here in the US. There has to be other sources you can get one at a better price, Amazon, Ebay, Aliexpress, the list goes on. A pound of powder costs about $15 and goes a extremely...

Model engine CDI easy and cheap

No, glow plug is standard and rc nitro fuel. they have a spark ignition / gasoline option that is about $200. Besides, I want to build my own to learn for future engine builds. I bought the engine to basically reverse engineer it for educational purposes, cam timing, valve size...

Model engine CDI easy and cheap

I plan on building one, just ordered the 4 pin cdi's using your link. I have a couple questions on the completed functioning ignition. What is the upper rpm limit? Could you possibly measure the input impedance of the GY6 scooter coil? The reason I ask is that I plan on...
