3d printed box for gear cutters

If you can find the space to put one you can get a decent 3D printer for around $200 in the US. Add another $15 to $20 for a roll of filament...

DIY drip feed oiler for cutting fluid

Wouldn't it be fairly easy to add an electric solenoid valve connected to the power switch so the coolant could only flow when the lathe was turned on?

Looking for a old light bulb

If I have had sufficient sleep even new fluorescent lights flicker badly.

Looking for a old light bulb

You need to spend a big chunk of money and get rid of that shadow. https://www.ebay.com/itm/30-LED-Sewing-Machine-Light-Working-Gooseneck-Lamp-with-Magnetic-Base-US-STOCK/254092609552?epid=12028372823&hash=item3b29198810:g:vB0AAOSw8PJcR-KC Put the light right where you want it.

Drilling and tapping carriage for rear tool post

When you have the parting too in the normal position any flex in the cross slide as the blade cuts causes the blade to dig in. With it in the rear the forces are to lift it and move the blade away from the cut. Even with less rigidity it will cut easier with the blade in the rear.

    Fusion 360 replacement

PC Pro offers a digital subscription so it should be available world wide.

    Using Myford S7 Gearbox

Have you looked at the gearbox? In my lathe the gears are straight spur gears and the need to be stationary when engaging. I never put the reverse tumbler in neutral and don't feel that is necessary.

Use a non-contact infrared thermomator as a pyrometer?

Does pure carbon float on molten aluminum? Maybe a carbon rod would work?

    What the heck?

Wild guess! The armature is probably pressed onto the shaft with no other fastener. It might be spinning the armature on the shaft.

    Fusion 360 replacement

SpringHollow, nice idea to post tutorials. I would never have gotten started in CAD without the tutorials and FreeCAD was another nightmare until I started with tutorials on that. My favorite series of tutorials were from Lars Christensen. Lars Christensen on Fusion 360

    Boxford 8" Shaper Clutch

Sorry, I missed a short word in that sentence. The wording should have said, "couple of rods" which could be shoulder bolts with the portion without threads contacting the belt when the tension is released. It doesn't take much to keep the belt from grabbing. I've even seen some stiff wire...

    Boxford 8" Shaper Clutch

Some small engine driven equipment have a couple rods that run close to the belt on the engine to keep the belt from grabbing when the tension is released. A few of them also have a brake on the driven pulley to ensure that it stops and stays stopped. That combination seems to be quite...

    Fusion 360 replacement

Onshape claims to export in industry standard formats. Most CAM packages can then import these and turn out a tool path gcode. I'm new at it but I suspect that if the project was not too complicated I could import the file to FreeCAD and run it through the PATH workbench to produce gcode for...

    Another Lathe Selection Thread

i have a 7X14 Harbor Freight lathe. Even that length of bed is limiting with the tailstock which I use a lot. I have mine in my basement where I have a heated space for working in the winter. I also have an older (from about 30 years ago, bought new) 10X24 that I can use in our short summers...

    3D Printer problems - Monoprice/Wanhao D6

You may want to consider one of these combo setups. This one ships from Pomona, California and while I don't know where you live these might get to you way ahead of the one you ordered from Aliexpress...

    Another Lathe Selection Thread

I'd say start at the beginning. What experience do you have with a lathe? Do you have a grinder to make your own lathe bits from tool steel blanks? Although my first though is that you want a big lathe so it can handle big parts, along with that size comes danger. A small lathe will be...

    CNCing a mini mill

You are quite right, turning the motor generates electricity as I discovered when I pushed the table on my 3D printer back quickly. That caused the display screen to light up. No damage was discovered but I'm a little more careful at how fast I push the table back now. Turning it slowly keeps...

    Tapered chuck staying in millshaft

Find out why that drawbar doesn't screw in. It should. It may need a different diameter or different thread.

    CNCing a mini mill

Check out FreeCAD as a design program and bCNC for the CAM and driver for the CNC operation. There are other free CAD programs too with different ways of accomplishing the same thing. It may take some experimenting to find the CNC that fits with what you want to do.
