Jan Ridders Simple LTD Stirling Engine Build

Still pushing on with this, I have now cut a new cylinder to size and with a better finish from a 16mm OD test-tube with 14mm ID. This is the graphite piston to a perfect polished fit. This is the first time working with graphite and I`m very impressed with the fit! Wasn`t quite finished in...

Jan Ridders Simple LTD Stirling Engine Build

I made an attempt at an LTD Stirling Engine several months ago and failed quite miserably. I know these things are temperamental but after my first attempt I did have quite a few ideas for improvements...nothing new, things that people have already been doing but stuff that I ignored! So over...

Jan Ridders Simple LTD Stirling Engine Build

Hi I don`t post very often on here, I`ve done a few small wobbler engines and this is my second attempt at an LTD stirling, sadly it is complete but not running! I`ve made quite a few posts on my weblog and so I`ll put them all on here in order of which they were made, hoping that someone can...

    Dovetail cutting?

OK so I guess it is my setup - it must have taken a good number of passes to cut the dovetail.

    Dovetail cutting?

I am also struggling with dovetails. I have taken the channel out using the endmill and now I am going on to the dovetails with the cutter. However, the dovetail cutter is screaming at me or if I change the speed nothing, it just still chatters. How much should I be trying to take with the...

Source for LBSC 3 1/2" Virginia 4-4-0 electronic plans

Well Sandy, you have answered my question so thanks    I have made contact with myhobbystore earlier today and they replied almost immediately. They will provide an electronic copy at the same price as the hardcopy. If both are wanted, the price is x1.5 which I thought was a bit...

Source for LBSC 3 1/2" Virginia 4-4-0 electronic plans

Hi, unfortunately these look to have been in the shops since 1980`s (there is a hand written date in the book of when parts had been completed) and consequently the plans are VERY poor quality, ripped, coffee stains, oil and they are even so old that some areas of ink have vanished! It is a...

    Henry Ford's First Engine Plans

Hi I am looking for plans for Virginia in electronic format. I have them for "Tich" but since I have started the virginia build using the M.E articles, with it being an old copy of the book, they are too small to work from and I`m struggling! It would be really helpful to get hold of some...

    Elbow Engine

I`ll be honest, does make you think why if you need one at the bottom you wouldn`t need one at the top. Likewise, there are running engines without the vertical port block, therefore is there a need for the one at the bottom and could this not be cut directly in the base. Anyway, good luck...

    Elbow Engine

Andy, yes that is correct but if you look at few working engines they have also included an addition port block attached to the vertical flywheel support. I don`t know how this would improve the design but it seems to...I mean it makes you wonder, if one has a port block and the other doesn`t...

    Elbow Engine

Andy, I`m new to M.E but had the chance to take a look at Stews engine in person last week and it really is a smooth running engine and an excellent build. His write up is also very detailed and I`m sure you would find it very useful. This engine looks so easy in terms of the parts but when I...

LTD stirling - PTFE or brass power piston instead of graphite?

Thanks for the info Steamdave but I wouldn`t even consider it if it was half the cost, infact make that quarter! That price was postage, I`ve still got the cost of the graphite on-top. I`m still certain that somewhere in the UK will supply me with a smaller piece.

LTD stirling - PTFE or brass power piston instead of graphite?

OUCH!! ::) ::) Direct quote from an email response I have just had from them: for postage alone for 1x12 graphite rod: ""We are looking at $131.19 to ship one or several 1x12 rods to the U.K. via UPS."" Hummm!

    Model for beginner

eskimobob - I would suggest Dave Goodfellows Brassy Babe as your first build as it has an excellent description of how it should all go together: http://www.davegoodfellow.com/plans.pdf It was my first build http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9goqHE7Ez8...
