For Sale Selling my dad's shop - Bridgeport, Linley Jig Borer, Southbend Lathe, Craftsman/Atlas Lathe, Deckel Grinder, Meteor Drill Sharpener

I'm passing on some advice my late Wife gave me. PREPARE IN ADVANCE. I have a lot of machinery, expensive models, tooling, tools and such. I've taken the time to take pictures of what I have. Then went to eBay, found exact or similar items and printed out what people are asking for items. I...

    Doubling Plan Sizes

LLoyd, I run my steam engines on compressed air. I have 125 psi available. My smaller version, I built, ran great. The original displacement calculated out to 0.1103 cubic inch. The new displacement, as you predicted, is 0.8824 cubic inch. I did make a twin V compressed air engine with both...

    Doubling Plan Sizes

I want to build another Rudy Kouhoupt's 5 Cylinder Radial, only bigger. If I doubled the dimensions on everything, do you think I will run into unexpected problems? I'm an amateur machinist. I did build the smaller version of the 5 cylinder, but now want to build a bigger one. Grasshopper

Looks like I may have to re-make some parts. Thanks, Grasshopper

Free plans for a larger, simpler, beam engine

Brian, I have been away from machining for a while. If you don't have your head in it, you WILL make mistakes. I took some time to build some 1/8 scale race cars and road cars. Anyway, I've been looking at getting back to finishing the beam engine. All the parts are done and I'm dry fitting...

    Loctite Question

Mr. Brainbridge, pages 20, 21 and 22 of the PDF file are just what I was looking for. Thanks. Grasshopper

    Loctite Question

Thanks Shop Shoe. I was hoping to find a page with solutions where I don't have to wade through hundreds of pages just to find my answer. Something like my one page of fractions and decimals. When I want to tap a hole, they tell me what drill to use. Something simple like that. Something where I...

    Loctite Question

I've come across so many blogs and threads where the machinists say they use Loctite (insert number here) for a particular assembly of their project. With so many Loctite products and numbers, are there any places where I can go to or download from with a concise explanation of what to use for a...

    Porsche 917 flat 12 engine

When machining the two valves, how do you control "tool push"? Do you use a steady rest on the middle of the part?

    Mark's Bernays's steam engine completed

Did you design this yourself or did you build it from existing plans? Can you point me to the plans? Grasshopper

    Helical gear cutting setup

What is the advantage of a helical gear over a spur gear? Correct me if I'm wrong. I thought helical gears in vehicles ran quieter than spur gears. But spur gears are stronger than helical, that's why racing engines use spur gears. They don't care about noise, just strength. Grasshopper

    I am back

John Lennon once said, "Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans". Glad you're back. Grasshopper

    wobble broaching tool

I often make a rectangular openings in metal plates using progressively smaller end mills. You still end up with rounded corners. Can a square wobbling rotary broach be used to square off these corners? Grasshopper

    Porsche 917 flat 12 engine

Foketry, Is the avatar picture in your postings a LaFerrari. If it is, I just got a 1/8 scale die cast model of a LaFerrari that I'm just starting to build. Grasshopper

    Porsche 917 flat 12 engine

The Porsche 917 is close to my heart. I saw it race in the 1970 Sebring 12 Hour. I also build plastic and die cast models. I'm currently building the 1969 Ford GT40 in 1/8 scale: https://www.model-space.com/build-the-ford-gt-model-car-us.html I have been waiting for someone to come out with a...
