How to get a mirror finish on aluminum

Chazz, Do you have a phrase that I could put in the search engine of Joe Pie so I could get the video you are talking about. Polish and Polish Aluminum isn't working for me. Thanks, Grasshopper

How to get a mirror finish on aluminum

I was given a block of aluminum for a project by a friend. I would like to get it to a mirror finish if there is a way. Don't know what kind of aluminum it is. I've tried a buffing wheel with the green high polish rouge and then tried my random orbital sander with 2,000 grit sandpaper, then...

Need sage advise of truing up Bridgeport style vertical mill.

I try to keep my head in the same position after tramming. If I need to do anything involving angles, I try to use my adjustable vise clamped to the table and a digital angle cube. Since I'm not doing any rocket science, I can get good results for what I do. Grasshopper

    Designing a Quiet Air Compressor

Ved and the others, I have to uncross my eyes after reading your engineering reports. Most of the time I just don't get it. Ved wanted me to learn some 3D CAD software and I bailed out when pretty much I couldn't even draw a straight line!!! I admire those who understand it. For me, just show me...

    iGaging DRO problems

Just wondering if others have this problem with iGaging products. In the photo I attached, the bottom DRO was purchased about 10 or 12 years ago. It's a 24 inch for my X axis on my Bridgeport Mill. Rarely any problems. The upper one was purchased in the last couple of years. That one is a 12...

Metal to metal dry lubrication... what product?

Well, probably a mess when you apply it. Just imagine taking the lead out of a pencil and going over to a grinder. Shove the lead into the grinder and you have graphite dust. About the same. It looks like you only need the dust between the screw and the magnet. I'm guessing the combination isn't...

Metal to metal dry lubrication... what product?

You might want to look for Powdered Graphite. I've used in key locks. It's just like ground up pencil lead. Grasshopper...

Something to help us "non" machinists

I purchased a set of plans for a Model Marine Engine. As I was starting the project, I noticed something that helped me immensely. Whenever there was a inside radius corner to be milled, the designer put in the plans where to begin and stop the "center" of the end mill so the edges would be...

    Seeking info

Ajoeiam, you said, "Regurgitating Facts". How would a student know these days if the professors are giving them "facts"?

    Seeking info

Steamchick, your story about learning how to think took me back to the final days of High School. It was in 1964. We had a Chemistry teacher who asked us, "What are you going to learn in College"? We were giving all the subject answers, Math, English, etc. He kept saying, "Wrong answer". He...

    Electric car plant

I would like to see the electric supply grid be upgraded to handle the extra load of electric cars before the cars are forced upon us. And do you think the oil lobby in Congress is going to let laws be passed to take away money from them???

    Swash Plate Plans?

Vederstein did a good job on his swashplate engine. Here's his site with the plans on HMEM: https://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/threads/swashplate-engine.33125/ And this is my build: https://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/threads/vedersteins-swashplate-engine-finished.34094/ Grasshopper

    Vederstein's 4 Square Engine

I finished Vederstein's 4 Square Engine. No, the colors don't mean anything, I just like how it looked. Ved makes really easy blueprints to follow. This is a Youtube video of the engine running: Grasshopper

    Electric car plant

I don't know if this conversation I found on the net has been posted, so here it is. We seem to be putting the cart before the horse. Why not create a power grid to handle all the enormous electric needs of these cars, then encourage people to get out of their fossil fuel vehicles and into...
