Engine for Rumely model F oil pull tractor

Hi Everyone, I've got the engine built and got it to run yesterday for the first time! Here is a photo of the engine and chassis with the radiator. Does anyone have any ideas about the carburettor? It's a copy of ET Westbury's design for his road roller scaled up. It has to lift the fuel...

    Engine Valves

I had no compression on my Rumely engine I am making so I made a collet to fit the 3 jaw chuck. Just a brass bush with a slit in it. Mark the number 1 jaw position. I took a very fine cut off the valve and used Solvol autosol to lap them in. I now have compression! Having said this I...

    Need drawings?

There are plenty of photos online and videos on Youtube of them. The model F was the only single cylinder one and was produced around 1912. I chose this one because the engine is simpler. I've got most of the engine itself made and hope to have a test run soon. I am finding it very difficult...

    Need drawings?

John, I'm making a 11/2in scale model of a Rumely Model F Oil pull tractor. I can draw on a board but prefer making stuff. I can't do CAD. In my research I found that there just aren't any drawings of these famous engines. Would you be interested in drawing it up? I think it would be a...

    Small Ignition Coil Drive Question

Thank you for the replies. The engine is one I am making for a model of a Rumely Oil Pull single cylinder so I am having to design it from scratch. Whatever ignition system I use it has to be small to fit in the space available. I've never made an IC engine before being a steam loco man...

    Small Ignition Coil Drive Question

Hi Earlwb, I bought a complete ignition set up on ebay that looks the same as the one you pictured on your previous post. I can't see how to get it to work though. I think i've got the AC set up as you show in the ebay listing. As far as I know it needs an AC supply which would be from a...

WTB 7 inch metal shaper, Atlas 7B, South bend or others

Hi Henry, thanks for your reply. I solved the problem today and now have a very good finish. I did not have enough top rake on the tool. With about 10 degrees top and side rake the finish was transformed and the machine was making much easier work of it. I do know what the steel was - hot...

WTB 7 inch metal shaper, Atlas 7B, South bend or others

I used my Ammco shaper for the first time yesterday. I had a steel bracket that needed thinning down. I found I could only take very light cuts and the finish wasn't that great. I think there is wear in the ram which was allowing the cutter to move vertically. I tightened the gib strips and...

WTB 7 inch metal shaper, Atlas 7B, South bend or others

I have just restored an old Ammco 7 inch shaper which was in pretty bad condition when I got it. Looks lovely now but I haven't used it yet seriously.

    Sealing boiler water level glass

LBSC used to recommend slices cut from rubber tubing and that works ok. As do O Rings. You don't need special O rings, the neoprene ones are fine. Silicone tubing slices work ok too.

Single Phase To Three Phase Rewind - Lathe Uprate

All the 3 phase motors I've seen here in the UK are 440/220 depending on whether they are wired in Star or Delta. You just remove a cover and shift 3 links to changeover. I've done it on 2 motors which I now run on a vfd which is single phase 220 volt. I also ran my lathe motor and a 3 hp...

    Clutch---Again!!!

Hello Coilmotorworks. I am trying to do the drawings for a Rumely Model F to 1/8th scale that I want to build. One of the details I can't work out is how the clutch works. I can see that it is a friction clutch working on the inside of the belt pulley but how does the operating linkage work...

    Ammco 7 inch shaper

Hello, I've been for a little shaper for a while and have just got an Ammco 7 inch one. It wasn't in a very good state but I paid very little for it so I am prepared to work on it. I have stripped it all down to repaint it and clean up the surfaces etc. I was a bit alarmed to see that the...
