    RongFu RF 25 Drill/Mill

Hi Barry, Your timely and good advice has swung me away from buying the Rongfu RF25 which has one disadvantage when the milling head is raised on the round column the X&Y get compromised. The truth was really the RongFu sells at S$1800 list and the Sieg 2.7 at S$2400 list. Cheapskate Gus was...

    RongFu RF 25 Drill/Mill

Good Advice. The Sakai Mini Mill too had a round column. There were some jobs which I had to do it other way which took long time. Had I gone into HMEM in 2004 before buying same mill,I too would have bought a Sieg or eqv. The RongFu RF 25 is a bit on the heavy side for our balcony. Will take...

    Rotary table

Hi John, Thanks for sharing the info on RT Usage. I DIY a carbon copy of the 4'' LMS RT from Taig Tool Projects. Very useful tool when building steam/petrol engines. Now in Southern Thailand which is very much cheaper than Singapore food and hotel room wise.Hotel WiFi excellent.

    RongFu RF 25 Drill/Mill

Hi All. Thanks for the valuable feed back. Will take another hard look at the Sieg and give it a fair evaluation. My worry is on the Variable Speed Drive performance and reliabilty. If I could buy the Sieg Mill from dealers comparable to ArcEuro etc, I would get a mill with best q.c. .The...

    RongFu RF 25 Drill/Mill

With router down and WiFi dead for 2 days,I have time to window shop for Mill. Apple to Apple comparison between a Sieg and Rongu RF 25, I am about to pick the robust RongFu over the Sieg. Bazmak-A Model Horizontal Shaper

Hi Barry. From the KG Stock Gear Master Cataloque,I was able to confirm both gears are Module 1.0 and I have the M.I.C. Involute Gear Cutters. As per J.I.S. gear thickness is 10mm. 4 years ago bought the Cataloque from TokyuHands,Tokyo,Japan. Was then planning to cut metric gears and same Cat...

    Bazmak-A Model Horizontal Shaper

Hi Baz, Gus missed the China Shaper he had for 20 years. We had made in UK Shapers in Trade School. The poor vice was bashed by many students and Gus was given the task of replace the vice nut. Rotary table

Given the time, one could build a 4'' D.H. with drawings from Taig Machine Tool Projects. Made mine successfully. As for the indexing plates, made it too with help from friends doing computer dividing print outs. DH is a twin bro. of LMS. Also made another D.H. using drawings from Harold Hall...

Hand Sharpening A Spiral Flute Tap

Thanks for sharing. Most my taps are Japanese Made. But I do have some Chinese Made and tapping bad thread and sharpening required. Going back to 1961,we broke some worned BSP Taps and were remanded by the instructors for being careless. And true enough while in the process teaching us the...

Remeber your first engine build--- Boll Aero----

Take care and get well soon. At our age, we are prone to old aged ills. Gus has Glaucoma on the right eye and it runs in the family. Glaucoma under control with eye drops. Meanwhile metal bashing goes on. Plan to redo same Bolaero Engine after the current Howell V-2 which really humble with its...

    Drilling brass castings

Hi Jenny Xie, Please introduce yourself and your DIY Projects. I am given the impression you are barging into our HMEM Forum to advertise and sell products. Your ''hands on'' experience with micro hole drilling seems to be none. Many of us are highly experienced retired machinists. We have...

    Drilling brass castings

Well said and from good experience drilling those pesky micro size orifices on our engine carbs. W/o the micro pecking drill chucks and very frequent pecking to clear chips,we would have scrapped many carb fuel nozzles. There was no need to buy expensive very high speed drill press. My cheapy...

    Vertical I.C. Rupnow Engine

I like building your engines because they are very forgiving. The Howell V-2 was very unforgiving but picked some new skills, polished up old skills and sort of tone down my impatience which led me to dimension errors. Read dimensions thrice, measure thrice and cut once and carefully. Plenty of...

Hi Cogsy, I am using CDI Kit from Howell Plans. Now prepping for the first pop. Some wire connections to tidy up.

    Howell v2

No worries. Small gears are difficult to cut. The 13 tooth is hard to get it right. Tooth must be cut at one go. I used a Poor man's DIY DRO.Best to cut gears between centres to get gear concentric. Slight errors can be easily lapped off. I use brass for the cam gear train which easy to lap off...
