    Jim builds his second v-8

That fix should involve far less work then the last one. Like my son in law, running through a puddle (lake!) on outer drive in the torrential rainstorms two weeks ago, you pretty much only bend rods by hydrostatic lock. Too much fuel or a coolant leak? At least you only have to fix one rod, I...

    Cutting lubrication

Some of the muzzleloader crowd only wear animal skins, use deer bone powder horns, and are permanently stuck in the 1830's :) Im pretty sure most of the stuff in tubes is synthetic, but you will find plenty in that crowd taking the "back to nature" route. A little tapmatic goes a...

Vroom vroom. Tried just motoring the blower yet?

    Lathe took a swan dive

Yep, not gonna happen. At that wattage they are referred to as rheostats, and definitely not $2.

    Lathe took a swan dive

There is no substitute for practice, unfortunately. Even a DRO wont stop you from zigging instead of zagging, it will just tell you how much you goofed up. :) Each part you send to the scrap bin teaches you a lesson, and makes the parts that dont go there feel so much sweeter. Stay safe and make...

    A V8 Maybe

George, with your talents, I cant see a corebox being much of a challenge for you. :D Looks like a nice solid casting. With poured bearings, you have definitely upped the jealousy factor.

    Cyl. liner fit

That is probably an indication the liner was cast in place. Sometimes its needed for all the previous reasons given, but one reason I think was passed over was for protection from fretting. A liner trapped between the head and block wont move in that (Z) axis, however, depending on the mass...

    Blower for The Demon V8

Dubro model airplane stuff at those sizes. I am deathly afraid of taps that small.

    Blower for The Demon V8

Especially as the eyes get older. :) McMaster has rod ends down to 6-32 size. Sometimes I keep one on the desk and import the cad file from them to check sizings. Still, there has been plenty of parts I have drawn and end up saying "how the heck am I supposed to hold that to cut it"? That...

    Copper for boilers

Thanks for the responses folks. After much searching and technical reading, I understand the hydrogen embrittlement issue. The good news, is according to all sources I have found, including this site http://www.copper-key.org/index.php?lang=english English C106 copper is the same as US C122...

    1/4 scale V8, first project.

I think that heater is more of a "helper" rather then providing 100% required temperature, but your really into uncharted territory here. :o If you want to test it, plug the heater in on the bench, and hit the sensor tip with some argon or helium or any gas that has no oxygen in it...

Anybody guess what this is going to be???

That should make winding a lot easier. :) As much iron or ferrite you can get in the center of the coil the better. Picture how the two halves of an E core work together to concentrate the magnetic flux as probably ideal.

    Copper for boilers

At the risk of thread necromancy, I have to bring this back up. Copper water pipe in the US should be alloy C122, which lists .0002ppm lead and is actually slightly stronger 31,300 then the usual 25,000 psi thumb spec. And with all the big box copper plumbing going into schools...

    1/4 scale V8, first project.

Its not likely that the O2 sensor will ever stay at the constant high temperature necessary for proper readings. Plus, you have to have an absolutely leak proof exhaust path as well. Looks like you have a whole lot of fun ahead of you. :)

    Jim builds his second v-8

Its pretty simple in principle, and a good exercise in practice, because any excess in clearance, or inaccuracy in pitch circle, and it just plain wont work.

    How clutch plates are made?

Istr band and shoe type clutches were in use long before todays clutch disc became popular. First stuff was mostly wood and horse glue I believe. Thats one to submit to the history channel.

Pics at this point would be most helpful.
