    Optimal number of boiler tubes.

Steamchick you make an interesting, if not terrifying, observation there. There is a ring around the base of the boiler shell that should/maybe resist any outward pressure. But the inner firebox is simply relying on a silver solder joint. I wonder if an inner ring were placed inside the firebox...

    Optimal number of boiler tubes.

tenor thank you for another thought-provoking post. I am/was intending for smokebox coils but you have made me rethink this. One point though, from your photo it looks like it has one tube down the middle, would that not defeat the object of using flue gases to heat the coils? There are no coils...

    Optimal number of boiler tubes.

There's a lot of information from both Steamchick and Tenor and Charles Lamont, some of it beyond my ken, I have to read it several times to let it sink in. Thank you all for taking the time to impart some of your knowledge and experience to me, I really appreciate it.

    Optimal number of boiler tubes.

"And a "wire-wool" Propane burner, around 8kW," As soon as I saw this burner of yours I thought this is the one. If I stay with the sized firebox door I am limited as to the size of burner. However, if I wanted to run a burner I could remove the firebox plate and come into the chamber from...

    Steam Engine Cylinder Lubrication

I generally just squirt some into the air line before starting, I do have an inline oiler that I have yet to fit, it's meant to oil air tools so it should work with an engine.

    Optimal number of boiler tubes.

I know that Steamchick said to message him directly, but I thought that with such a gathering of gods (experts) here I would post a photo of a portion of my blueprints, who remembers when they were actually blue and faded away to blank paper? They are copyrighted, but posting a small view I...

    Optimal number of boiler tubes.

Thank you Martin, that answers my question, smaller is better in this case.:D I think that Quinn's calculations use surface area only, not taking into account what percentage of heat is lost up the chimney, so to speak.

    Optimal number of boiler tubes.

This is my latest calculation using Quinn's calculator. Using the designed 55 tubes @ 7/16" diameter will give me 2280 cubic inches per minute, more than enough for my engine that needs 1325 cubic inches per minute. 30 0.5" tubes will give me 1493 cubic inches, still enough for my engine, and...

Quinn Dunki otherwise known as BlondiHacks on YouTube has several files for her Patrons and the calculator is one of them.

    Optimal number of boiler tubes.

Forgive me if this has been discussed before. I have Quinn's boiler calculator which I am using to plan a design for a 6" boiler. I do have a professional set of plans for a 6" that states 55 tubes, I'm not sure of the diameter at the moment, I'm going to guess at 1/4"-3/8". Using Quinn's...

Hi, Ray here from Ontario, Canada, I've been a model builder for a year or so. My first build was a PM Research Steam Engine #3, I enjoyed that so much I wanted something more challenging so I built a PM Research #4. This taxed the limits of my Mini lathe and mini mill but with the help of...
