What is the best value mill to cnc convert etc

I agree, Full size is the way to go if you have the space. Like the Bridgeport in the background with the AHHA retrofit package. Mite

Wanting to get started in CNC

Sorry you gave up and "invested" in a TV. Home Shop Machinist, and other magazines have run lengthy articles on machine conversions. We all know about digital TV, thank you. I like the Engineering Disasters show on History. Enjoy yourself! and dream about what you could be making in your...

    Differential

My 1/2 scale Terning Case Engine has a John Dear differential in it. The Quarter size has 5 home made bevel gears inset in the bull gear or a total of 18 home made gears. This engine was built from scrap in 1982 on a Logan 10" lathe, and Enco Mill drill. Boston gear has/had a good selection...

    Curved Flywheel Spokes

I have seen locomotive, at least 1/8 scale drive wheels with cracked spokes. These were as I understand from cooling issues. Spokes on one side of the wheels had hair line cracks only one side. Later wheels were left in the mold longer to cool and came out perfect. The spokes being thinner...

    New around here.

Hi, I'm not new being 57 years old, but new to the site. I've been making engines, and cannon for a while. Quite few names seem to be familiar to those on the other sites. Couple come to mind are Powder Keg, and John Stevenson, both very talented fellows. Just wanted to check in and say...

Curved and Classic "S" spoke Flywheel construction

Those are really nice fly wheels and a good write up. I did some train wheels in the past with the help of modern technology too. I can really appreciate the time and effort of doing things the old way! mite

    Steamech traction engine

Tmuir, Yes, that's a nice looking kit. The laser, and water jet machining in common usage today really makes for fine looking work. It's a shame it dosen't have a proper locomotive type boiler though! Is it fired by alcohol or the tablets? Looks like a lathe with a milling slide and drill...
