    Silver Soldering

I know that feeling! My son and I are planning to join TechShop for learning more about tools. They have low and hitech machinery. I'm very interested in using their 3-D laser scanner and printer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2M9h1cPNBo

    Silver Soldering

Good Write! I'm considering using a kiln to solder with paste and solder wire. I have seen this used and it looks very easy and precise.

    Silver Soldering

I'm always thinking that everyone is in the hobby for for life. I use my 3 different torch set-ups for many different uses, including full-scale tubing soldering and brazing. I just like to have all the tools, just like the tool freak that I am! LOL! I'm guilty!LOL! I don't mean to be misleading.

Oxy/Propane can be adjusted with the mixing valves for precise heat requirements. It is infinitely faster than only using Propane.

You might need oxygen/propane/butane to achieve the higher temps. I use this with really good results. I use oxygen/acetylene for large pieces.

    Pickling a Copper Boiler

I have used MappGas for over 30 years as well as oxygen/acetylene and oxygen/propane, have soldered and brazed over 10 miles of copper tubing. I would consider finding a small oxygen bottle and propane bottle. If you take your time and look around you can find them. It is going to give the best...

    Pickling a Copper Boiler

I was refering to Runner's comment: The boiler construction has been stalled for some months due to not having sufficient heat source to silver solder the remaining items, I have a 7kw propane torch which is struggling even with the lowest melting point silver solder (620 deg C). ... The copper...

    Pickling a Copper Boiler

I recommend using an ultrasonic cleaner vat with acid. You may find a local shop that can ultrasonically clean your boiler. This machine cleans airbrushes with mild solvent, too. I highly recommend a propane/oxygen torch kit. It makes a much cleaner solder joint with less cleanup. You will save...

Boiler Build For American LaFrance Engine

I'm going to have 100psi. Do you think these tubes would have a thick enough wall thickness? The thin walls of the fire tubes will exchange heat more efficiently.

Boiler Build For American LaFrance Engine

What is the operating working pressure of your boiler? I'm building a vertical 7.5" diameter x 4.5" height boiler and need similar sized fire tubes.

    Silver Soldering

I'm finding that cadmium silver solder flows better than cad-free solder. I have used cadmium silver solder for over 20 years now but use lots of ventilation. Anyone else having the same experience? Kind Regards, Giovanni

    Copper Boiler Fabrication

J, You are right in your comment. I will set the pressure gauge at 106psi. I'm not forming the end-plates. They will be machined out of 3/8" copper plate. I'm sure that the wire-wound boiler shell and the machined copper end-plates will handle up to 150psi, but too much liability! You steamheads...

Does anyone have info or experience with the Anton gas burner regulator valve???? ??? I'm very impressed with their products but not sure which design to use.

I'm hoping that the wire wrap will help. A 125psi rating would be great! Thanks for the KNH book! It is very nice.
