wet sanding on a surface plate

Lew: Does this damage a granite surface plate?

    rebuild: Before and after

My guess is that the tray, cabinet and lathe were combined sometime after they left the factory. The tray and cabinet appear to be for a longer bed lathe and/or the lathe is not in the factory position on the tray. There is a good picture of a 10K cabinet model on this forum...

    rebuild: Before and after

A 10K is a very nice lathe for a home shop. That lathe should have an underdrive if it originally came on that cabinet. The drive behind the headstock was on the bench model.

    Tapping cast iron

More points to consider. Cast iron is notorious for hard occlusions that are almost impossible to thread with small taps. Taps that are not sharp will bind mush worse than sharp ones. The amount of flex a tap will tolerate is determined by the manufacturer when the tap is tempered. Too hard...

HOW TO BUILD A Rope climbing mechanical robot(non-electrical) suggestions.

I am guessing that you are a modern student of instant communication via the internet and expect Google to do your project for you. Since you posted this on a model engine forum ( a most unlikely source), how many hundreds of fora did you post this same request on? You are asking for help for a...

    Briggs & Stratton 6S

When rings wouldn't seat, old time mechanics would let the carburetor suck a bit of powdered BonAmi. Just a very mild abrasive. You may have finished the piston and bore too good.

    Briggs & Stratton 6S

I have never had a full size B&S that didn't burn some oil. You just demonstrated your ability to recreate the operational deficiencies of the original. ;)

    Health Issues

Dave: Baking soda is base that neutralizes the stomach acid. Acid reducers cause the body to produce less acid. Probably a different approach to the same end, but doctors and drug companies can't make any money of baking soda.

    What i do!

    Yes, very interesting.

    Health Issues

Another problem with acid reducers is that they may make the original problem worse. Reduced acid may reduce the proper digestion in the stomach. That allows some undigested food to pass into the small intestine which immediately gets upset over this intrusion and the result is a food...

    Cylinder Lap? Hone?

In some respects, a model IC engine is no different than the full sized one. The fine valve grinding compound from the auto parts store will finish valves to hold much higher pressures than we obtain in models. After boring a full sized engine cylinder, you have to cross hatch the surface with a...

    Rivett Lathe - Amazing!!!

Like all used machine tools, this could be a buyer beware. This could be a beat up lathe with a rattle can overhaul, sold by a used machine dealer. Made in 1941, I doubt that the previous owner bought it new for his hobby shop

    small fasteners

From my days in the electronic business I have many of Excelite's miniature tools, including the very small spline wrenches (Bristo keys) that used to be in all the small instrument knobs. I also have the small nut drivers where the biggest one is about .125" and the collet wrench for the...

    Mudding Drywall

For all the little nicks, dings, nail holes, etc., I use Pollyfilla by Lepage or it's equivalent. It comes in a tube that you cut the end of the tip and just force a small amount into nail holes or a small amount on a putty knife to fill depressions. A quick rub with 80 grit after an hour and...

    Felt?

Felt is a common commodity in fabric stores. Send your wife shopping for what you need. Just to make you feel bad, I put almost a square yard of wiper felt in the garbage when I moved last summer.

    Phase II QCTP Set Up

My success with the Chinese knurling tools has not been impressive. OK on 6061 aluminum, just passable on mild steel.

    Where's zeeprogrammer?

Look after the liver. Nothing else matters when the health fails. If it means slowing down the life, so be it. Slow is way better than stopped!

    small fasteners

Thanks for all the replies on hex wrenches. I really hate to send off a mail order for a couple of three cent items from a company that I have not been buying from. I am not desperate, I have one that I have spent hours searching for on the floor when it got pushed off the bench. When I had a...

    small fasteners

Have you found anyone in Canada with .031" hex wrenches. You need them for the 2-56 set screws. I have tried every source I can think of in Edmonton and haven't found any.
