TB3 - IC engine team build

Hi Chuck yes it runs well. I have quite a collection of them. I used to go to the shows quite often when my kids were younger and enjoyed it. I have a couple of the M's which were throttle governed an LA and a Z. Also collected a few One lunger marines. I grew up on a farm here in New England...

    CNC vs Hand turning/milling

I've been doing G code programming for 12 yrs. now and I always find new ways to do things. At home I only have the 2 axis Lagun and it is an older conversational Proto-Trak but as the CNC machines become more affordable I will surely add to the fleet. Learning the trade in the late sixties and...

TB2 - Modifications to the build

Hi Wes, yes it would take a bit of hassle to achieve. I've just been playing with the models of it as I go based on some things we discussed. The set screws will be fine on a small model this size with no real load. I'm hoping to build one complete as well as the team build which is why I'm...

TB2 - Modifications to the build

Can we do a sectioning job on the cam ring so that we could use the threaded piston rod and fork idea? Adjustment could be done in the gap ,then loctite with a light grade (242 blue) if no room for a jam nut.I've attached some pdf to show what I mean. Dick

TB3 - IC engine team build

I'll make parts for what ever is chosen but simpler is better for the first one I would think. I'm sure our confidence as team builders will grow with our knowledge as we learn from each other and those that have already been there done that! ;D Dick

    TB2 - Elmer's Coomber #46

Great idea John, I've never used that tape method but I'm sure it will work very well! I'm learning something new already! ;D Kirk my only suggestion to this would be to face one side of each one to get better adhesion with the tape and surface contact against the jaw faces because the stock I...

    TB2 - Elmer's Coomber #46

I think it really depends what you have on hand for tooling. If you have soft top jaws you can approach it totally different . This flywheel doesn't have a full radius rim so it can be done with just the chuck but will take some fudging to get it true. If your chuck isn't dialable you might need...

TB2 - Modifications to the build

Not much thicker Kirk, I cut to length to be sure I had enough to get all the pieces. There is an extra .100" for facing and squaring. ;D I was thinking of proportional appearance really not functional. Good point that it really isn't even needed. Dick

TB2 - Modifications to the build

I shipped the brass pieces to Kirk and Eric last Wednesday..... I don't have any larger dia. in that amount. They could be dedicated flywheel builders and use it for a future build. ;D Being my first one..... are we waiting for a close to critical dimensions mods before we start machining? I...

    TB2 - Elmer's Coomber #46

I'm going to try some 6061 tool plate for the bearings I'm making. The print calls for hard aluminum or brass. I will be sure to get a good finish so that a polish can be easily achieved. Might even drag the camera out to the shop to document some part of it. I know now how much you all like...

    Building a double acting wobbler

Brian , when I did mine I threaded the ports and some brazing rod. Screwed them in and filed flush. Worked pretty well for me. regards, Dick

    My Wobbler

Hi Ralph, Thanks for the positive comments. I made 3 because I usually give one to my brother( he give me electronic projects he does) and I wanted a spare in case of a fatal error. I made them about 3 yrs. ago during the winter. Both this one and the scotch yoke have run many hours. I only found...

    My Wobbler

Here is a video of the first Wobbler I made. It's from the same plan Brian is doing one from now. My approach to the Loctite dilemma was to go headless ;D I did mill false hex cap screws on top. The cylinder Flywheel and crank are 304 SS. The piston and rod gland are brass. Base and frame are...

    TB2 - Small Bearing - Bob W

It will be important to have a solid hold on the part when unclamped. I would be inclined to cap the pivot pin with a washer and spring to keep it down flat. Hold the part with an adjustable or some form of parallel jaw tool. I have attached my drawing in PDF. I have .125 radii everywhere but we...
