    Thread Dial

Thanks djc, Leadscrew is 24mm Dia, Pitch 3.0mm Dial Indicator gear 24 teeth. I guess this is how you measure pitch "center to center of thread"

    Thread Dial

I purchased the lathe new and nothing has been changed. It seems for metric threads the engage points are very close on the dial's 6 point markings.

    Thread Dial

I finally decided to have another crack at single point threading following my past failures. I have an AL-320G lathe with a metric leadscrew. I changed the gears for a 1.5 pitch on a 16mm rod. I ran into problems engaging the half nut, then decided to leave it engaged and reverse the lathe...

    Gear Train Retainers

All good advice guys I'll search for the mentioned clips. Also may look at a DC motor conversion if I get too many threads to cut. Kpar

    Gear Train Retainers

Thanks Jasonb, I thought as much on the changing of gears. I'll just have to save any lathe threading and do them all together. Kpar

    Gear Train Retainers

OOPS -They are not "C" clips but "E" clips. Maybe external "C" clips would be better.

    Gear Train Retainers

Hi all, I have a AL-320G lathe and having issues with the "C" clips that hold the gears on. Is there a better type or do i just put up with it. Also is there a way around having to change the gears back to default so that power feed can be used ? I've been told my fault I bought the wrong lathe...

    Igageing DRO help

Thanks Scotty, I wasn't sure if one adapter would handle what the units draw. The adapters only show 5 Volts but no current.

    Igageing DRO help

Been a while since my last post, been out of action. I'm revamping my workshop and decided to change my Igageing DRO's (4 off) power supply. I currently using 4 plugin power supplies and while they have been ok I would like to do away with the 4 separate plugins. My adapters are 5Volt yet the...

    Help with Sieg Sx2.3 Mill

I've had my Sx2.3 for a few years now and have been impressed with its performance however it seems to have developed excessive head movement even with a 6mm end mill. I put a dial gauge on the column only a couple of thou movement but on the head you can actually see the movement .015"+ with...

    Positive - Negative Rake

Well I've just finished a jig to cut internal / external keyways on my ALg30 Lathe using the compound slide. Seems to work ok but, I'm having issues with grinding a suitable HSS tool bit. Positive rake seems to give a shuddering effect in steel while negative rake is ok with aluminum, I cant...

    Engine Specs

Wow, will have to sit back and read it a few times for it to sink into my old head. But all good advice and I have been thinking on using bearings instead of bushes. I'm not much for designing or reading complicated plans but so far pleased with what I have done in the past. Kpar

    Engine Specs

Thanks for the advice. As I said I'm going to scale my Henry Ford Engine down to about half. I have watched a work in progress from a late member, Chuck Fellows and will be following some of his build and hopefully changing it to a hit & miss. One thing that I'm concerned about is the governor...

    Engine Specs

Hi All, regarding engine specs, is it just a matter of changing specs to a half size or are there other issues to consider. The Henry Ford's Plumbing engine I built runs well and now I'd like to have a go at making a smaller size one and change to a hit & miss. Any comments/advice would be much...

    Shrink Fit

Well quite pleased with myself, just a back yarder in lots of things but this worked out ok. The Webber Q seems to put out enough heat for future heat shrink fittings.

    Shrink Fit

Well I made up a new cast wheel and decided to do a test first before removing from lathe. Brass Ring Cold = 140.53mm ID. Hot = 141.23mm ID (temp 450 f) Cast wheel 140.70mm OD Hopefully if I'm correct about 0.021" shrink fit. I was not expecting the that amount as I always assumed 001" per...

    Shrink Fit

Thanks Chuck, yes it is a flywheel and lucky I've got another weight for a remake. I done the unthinkable today made the final cut on the cast wheel and you wouldn't believe it, I had .012" to go and that is what I dialed in on the cross feed. I couldn't believe it. O well, Nothing else to do...

    Shrink Fit

Very interesting comments from somewhat more experienced members than me. Well I was going to do a test today, but now out of action for a few days. It seems my 4 jaw chuck has put on weight or, I'm getting weaker in my old age. will let all know when I get back to it Kpar

    Shrink Fit

Rich, well explained in terms that even I can understand. I might do a test as I would be disappointed if the ring stuck half way due to not enough heat. Kpar
