    Narex boring facing head

Ok I understand the braking ring and all other functions except the safety pin engagement. The pics are not clear. Where exactly is it , I see the dog pin on rear for stop but it's saying to engage safety pin first then adjust feed so? Mine is a hair different than the one posted at...

    Narex boring facing head

When I was looking for prices they ranged quite wildly. eBay had just the head and shank for 750$ New prices were crazy also from 1300 to 3500. Had no idea these were this much for tooling. I had seen eBay prices and was expecting new to be so where around a grand, but wow. In the...

    Narex boring facing head

Well after all my woes building a boring head, my trusty pawn shop snooper/ brother in law  came and dropped a narex boring facing head in my lap. :o He had mentioned it to me a couple weeks ago and with a Google search revealed they are quite expensive. So his initial plan was to make...

    Turning cap screws?

Should of used a different title for this thread, my bad:p But while we're here. Can I just jump up one size then finish tap to correct size and still achieve low backlash? I planned on just buying the single size vs a whole set. I like the 20 divisions. If I'm reading the plans...

    Turning cap screws?

Ok turning problem is solved. I swear every cap screw I've ever tried has ended badly then this one is normal. Go figure. And no I did not know how they were measured using standard 40 threads per inch. This is exactly the info I was looking for so thank a bunch. Looks like I'm buyin the...

    Turning cap screws?

Every one I've tried so far has ended in failure. Try again I guess. What other common threads could I use for distance for .001

    Turning cap screws?

My boring head needs a leadscrew and the plans call for 6/40. Well I don't have this size or dies for this thread. But the bigger issue is turning an existing socket head screw.the ones I have are hardened . I have to be able to turn one according to plans so I can't simply change the bolt, or...

    01 tool steel tapping

Well plan c and d came together today. I was able to tap easily using10/24. Initially I thought 8/32 but didn't want to risk anymore chances. So moving on I, drilled two more holes for gib holders, and using the countersink knowledge, tried 6/32 again. Well that went bad:wall:, then realized...

    01 tool steel tapping

I think you hit it on the head with the tap starting off center without having the neccasary beveled relief. Though the tap looked straight. I noticed the screw was wobbly at first then settled down torwards the bottom of the hole. I will try this tomorrow and hopefully report good news.

    01 tool steel tapping

6/32 is the print dimension. I will need to go to next size as hole is not fully threaded. If the taps you mention will work then I will buy them. I did not know there was a separate tap scale for harder steels I think6 /40 would fit for my dimension so does tap need to be exotic, like...

    01 tool steel tapping

As bought it is not hardened. I was able to turn the 3/4 inch shank on my 7x 10 lathe. So did not foresee tapping issues. Tap started out ok the would strip the hole, after this I increased hole size and was able to get bout 3 turns then would lock up. I knew better than to crank on it so I...

    01 tool steel tapping

First off can it be done. Have a boring head that needs threaded to 6/32 and I'm Wondering if I messed up and used wrong steel. The web is saying I may need a special tap? At this stage I'm really hoping to save the part since its the last step needed. Annealing is not an option so?...

What tool for cutting v jaws

I am making a v jaw plate for my vise to hold round stock. It will be 1.380 tall by 6 inches long and trying to find a way of cutting the valleys. I am wondering if I could use a small ball endmill for most stock removal then switch to a 60* countersink to finish. Using flat plate cold rolled...

    Scale downsizing?

Thanks everyone. Just what I needed. I will adjust for the boring bars as needed. I don't need one as big as the plans right yet but this puts me in the area. Thanx again

    Scale downsizing?

I'm building a boring head and hope someone can tell me how to downsize to fit my existing workpiece. . I don't need to switch to inches, but I need to know how and what numbers to divide. I will stay with mm for ease of construction. I have a 1.5 inch bar ready for this one from another...

    Knurler build

When I bought the wheels, if I remember correctly these were the medium or fine size. Even on the wheels themselves the knurl is not very deep. Maybe I got lucky this time, since this is pretty much the first time knurling , that all the lines are spaced evenly. My preference would be a...

    Knurler build

Here is a in action photo. Worked good and no pressure on my lathe bearings. The project I'm working on. It is the traversing, elevation screws for a 1/2 scale ma deuce or m2 machine gun. The plans were from ccs prints, and is built using a donor .22 rifle. I'm almost thru the tripod used...

    Knurler build

Today's work required a 28 degree slot milled for tightening bolt clearance So I broke out the rotary table and made quick work of it. Here is the tightening setup. I used the longest bolt I had, and was still a little short, so I will need to make another. I I have read numerous threads...

    Knurler build

Have been working on a 1/2 scale tripod for my latest project. Some parts require a knurled edge and I haven't bought one so I decided to try and build one. I used 5/8 inch square steel bar. Pins are steel that I think will need to be hardened. For the center bolt I used a oversized...

    Cnc building ?s

Starting off thanx to everyone who responded. I know zip when it comes to cnc. Anything that is needed will be learned as I move thru the project. Many if not most of the cnc build logs I have read seem doable. The mechanical side I'm pretty positive, the computer not so much, the...
