    Coil winder

Ok I've wound a few coils now and it is getting easier and easier as I gain the ability. I have ordered some different gauges of magnet wire just experimenting. The last one I wound will give a decent spark at 4 Volts a weaker spark at 3 volts. Runs my Atkinson engine really good and makes it a...

    A Question about Generators

It will depend on the gauge wire the length of the wire and rotation rpm plus what is the magnet gauss. T cal all I do not know but I do know this all effects the voltage and amps or watts. Time to do more research or build up something and see what you get. Basically you are talking about...

    Splinters

That is pretty much how I do the same only with a single edge razor blade I go from our paint shop many years back (still works). They since remover those plus the exacto knives from the shop so now you'd be SOL for that. They had too many minor cuts so corporate in all their wisdom or lack...

    Splinters

LOL I don't believe I was being pompous about anything. But as far as safety goes in the 43 years of working in the shop environment and 30 of them on the shop floor I do believe I have the knowledge to point out bad practices! In those 30 years have attended many safety class's and have learned...

I was under the assumption that this message board was to promote best practices. Some seem to think just because nothing bad has happened to them it's just fine. I say you are never too old to learn something. That includes safe practices.

    Splinters

Yes air can be dangerous on skin. If you have any nicks or cuts it is even low pressure that can be bad. I watched a dud blow chips off on his clothing and next thing he was an the floor. Seems he had a very small cut and the air was blown under the skin and the air caused him to black out. The...

    Struggling to tap some stainless.

I agree with what Steve says plus I use Moly dee it is a high sulfur lube that works wonders on stainless. It stinks but for tapping stainless you have a hard time beating it.

    Bending brass tubing

Here is a vid on my bending brass tube for the first pipes I made for the Little Demon engines. I used a corn meal packing too keep them from collapsing while bending plus annealed before bending.

    Safety Turning

Even with a proper ground chip breaker tool you need to keep the feed rate up and most likely if you are going for a finish cut you will not achieve it. On heavy cuts with the proper feed no problem so on the finish cuts you just need to be careful. I keep a chip hook handy and a pliers to...

    Cylinder bore surface help

Here is a link to charts if you are not familiar with surface finish call outs. With a 63 you can still feel the boring bar marks in the cylinder with your fingernail which is what you want for cast iron rings. Scratches in the cylinder are ok as long as they go around the bore and not straight...

    Cylinder bore surface help

You really don't want it real smooth a 63 finish is plenty good enough if you are using cast iron rings if you are using rubber rings (which I personally will never use) then you would want a 16 or better. The smoother you get it beyond a 63 the longer it will take the rings to seat.
