    Colchester Chipmaster

Does anyone have an idea what a Colchester Chipmaster is worth? I'm asking for someone else and after a quick look at it, the ways look very good, it has no chucks, the variator is not just not functional but totally missing and was replaces with a 575V 3 phase motor with a VFD. I didn't check...

Just joined. Have inherited an Emcomat 7. Has a few issues so seeking knowledge

I had a Maximat 7 and agree, that switch could be a real pain if it fails, otherwise I really liked it. They do require care though as the flat ways collect swarf and are soft, so they have to be kept very clean, replacing the felt wipers would be a good start.

Looking for hex wrenches with hardened ends

I'm not sure what you are doing with your wrenches, I have sets of Bondhus wrenches that are at least 20 years old, the only one that gets worn out, and I think I've only replaced two in the 20 years, plus the 3/16 ones that got lost. The thing to watch out for is allowing regularly used screws...

Repairing my shaper, an ongoing saga.

Clean up isn't a big deal, the magnet turns off so a shovel/brush/water spray will do it.

Repairing my shaper, an ongoing saga.

While not particularly applicable to most home shops, I suppose it depends on what kind of magnet and how old, but things have changed considerably from what you suggest, as well as how you do your setup on the magnets, there are some very strong magnets out there now, some designed for milling.

    Recasting a broken casting.

It's just a guess, but the likely source of magnesium rims is in very high end rims where the minor difference in weight makes a difference or at least the perceived difference, most 'consumer grade' 'mags' are aluminum. That said, if you aren't sure, test it before use.

Versa mill, is modernisation it a Sacrilege

FWIW, others may disagree but it's not their machine. Advice on what might be the best way or pitfalls to look out for can be helpful but you own it so do what works for you.

Sold Is Air Cooled Lil Brother more/less desirable than Water Cooled?

It is an auction, I've seen a clapped out Bridgeport in boxes go for more than a reasonably nice, completely assembled machine, it just depends on who is willing to pay for it and how badly.

    Budget HSS lathe tool grinder

Where's the fun in that, why buy something when you can make it for 5 times the price?;)

    Strange reamer designations

And, because there is no size, just a '76RT' designation, they can't even be checked with a CMM? I would think someone ought to know the dimensions.

Building a twin cylinder inline i.c. engine.

What, you have opticians that can grind a lens perimeter, opticians around here buy their lenses from one of three companies that own the industry?😲 My optometrist that requires a 'dispensing optician' on staff, buys from the Zeiss lab in Vancouver, a 40 hour, non-stop drive away.

Building a twin cylinder inline i.c. engine.

Here's a good video, it doesn't require any special tools apart from a glass cutter, and the diamond should work. The applicable part is at around 8 minutes into the video.

    First time bevel gear cutting

FWIW, you can do bevel gears with only a straight cut, but you have to use a tooth form cutter suitable for the outer diameter and that means it will contact only at the outside end of the teeth, the two/three cut method is better as it provides better/more contact. There is complete...

What is this used this for?

When I initially gave the description, it was relative to the other survey equipment the OP said it was with, generically, a goniometer is anything that measures or facilitates setting angles.

What is this used this for?

Goniometers are basically specialized transits for finding/producing precise angles.
