I use ready mixed Antifreeze Coolant obtainable at any automotive accessory stockists, I drain down after running the engine while it's warm the coolant can be be reused.

Brian, your latch will work better if you file a small bevel on the toe of the latch so that it clears the latch stop when the spring pulls it open, similar to the shoot on a lock latch. Mike1
