Pacific Vapor Engine from Morrison & Marvin Castings

Hi Everyone I got my cylinder back from my friend who honed it on Sunnen power hone; it came out beautifully and dead on the 1.750 diameter. Continuing work on the piston the indexing head is rotated down to the horizontal position and indicated in. The wristpin hole is...

    Unfinished gear wrench

I had a Craftsman wrench that didn't get completely finished one time; only it was the box end that didn't get broached. I also found a tap in the drawer at work one day that had never got the flutes cut in it; and no it wasn't a roll form tap. Dave

    Electrical wiring consultation

Hi Stan Like what kvom said; I usually only power tap through holes and only with spiral pointed or spiral fluted taps. My VFD is set up to dynamic brake so it stops plenty fast. What I do is to first make sure the quill stop is out of the way, start the spindle and then before I start tapping...

    Electrical wiring consultation

One more thing; to me at least for me; the push buttons and speed pot are much easier to deal with than the membrane panel on the VFD. I power tap quite often and the push buttons work great for that. Dave PS. My VFD is a Hitachi SJ200 series FWIW.

    Electrical wiring consultation

Hi Stan, Congratulations on your new (to you) mill; I'm sure that you will enjoy it. Here is a picture of the temporary control box I made to control my VFD until I get my CNC project finished; eventually everything will be controlled by Mach 3. Although I will still probably retain the manual...

Pacific Vapor Engine from Morrison & Marvin Castings

Hi everyone, I have been able to make some progress on the piston this week; so far all is going well but is was a bit of a challenge to get it dialed in. Here is a shot of the raw aluminum casting. And a view of the inside. The casting was chucked in the small...

    New Frisco Standard

Wow! Beautiful job on the Frisco; the wood and paint work are really nice and also your attention to detail. Did you make the name plates? I also have a set of these castings aging on the shelf waiting for me. Do you plan to add the ignitors down the road or just stick with the spark plugs...

    Crankshaft for Twin Launch

One more vote for 1144 stressproof; 1018 and 303 will walk all over the place. I would use plane old hot rolled steel (A36) before the others. I can't say on the 4140. Dave

    Bottle engine

Wow that's nice! I really admire folks who do great pattern work and them pour their own castings. I have been working on a Pacific Vapor engine for the last year or so that has a nice bottle frame; IMHO a very nice shape for an engine steam or gas. Dave

Pacific Vapor Engine from Morrison & Marvin Castings

Hi everyone Well I have finally been able to spend some quality shop time on the Pacific; within the last week I was able to finish up the cylinder head. Another little milestone in its construction. As I had indicated earlier the internal design was altered somewhat to keep from having...
