    It will not run.....

Jasonb I am going out and stating to build this right now. I will send you progress pics. Thanks for the help

    It will not run.....

Thank you guys for all your help. I am still a bit unclear. See the sketch below I got on line Both power ports are covered when the slide valve is in the center and the exhaust is open. As the valve moves to allow steam in the other port is open to exhaust. I am just trying to find the right...

    It will not run.....

I am finding that out now. The slide valve shaft is .240 to short as well. So I am making 2 new slide valves and 2 shafts. Again has anyone out there got a drawing or can point me in the direction of a drw that shows the relationship of slide valve to ports openings. Or do I just make sure when...

    It will not run.....

I think I have come to same conclusion. When the slide valve is in the center position both power ports are open. I followed the drawing from grabcad to the letter could there be an error in the drawing? let me get this straight. When the slide is in the center position both power ports should...

Can anyone point me in the direction of a drw for a slide valve configuration. You are right at mid point both ports are open. Do you think the grab cad drw is in error?

    It will not run.....

Hey guys still no joy. I was wondering I followed these plans to the letter. How much wider should the slide valve be than the 2 outside edges of the power ports? Right now my slide valve is .551” wide. And outside to out side on my ports is .531”. That’s only .010” per side. Is it possible...

I just have to say again this forum is great for help like that. “ It takes a village”

    It will not run.....

Guys.THANKYOU!! I had no idea. When you look at the drawing I have clearly the cylinders are running at 180 deg not 90. What you are all saying makes so much sense. So back to the shop. I will take the main shaft out and cut a flat at 90 deg. So I can adjust the counter weight at 90 deg to each...

    It will not run.....

I can get one or the other running just fine. When I pipe them together no joy. I just came back from the shop and I got them to run together but very rough.m

Help guys this is not rocket surgery! It will almost start but not quite. It should be simple. One side at TDC steam valve let’s steam into the top of that chamber drives the piston down . The other side BDC the steam valve let’s steam into the bottom of that chamber and drives the piston up. I...

    Very close call

Here’s one. I have been a machinist for 40 years. And this is a first. I dropped my vernier and as I have always done before put my foot out so it would not hit the floor. Well it stabbed me. I have never seen this much blood. So 5 hrs in the emergency room and 2 stitches later. And I am back in...

Grizzly 4 3/4” Power Rotary table c/w DRO

So here it is. I mounted a 6” 3 jaw on the 4” table. Runs on the horizontal within .002” . The controller is dead easy to use. I have taken a 90 deg square cut than ran a dial along both faces and it was bang on. I think this might be fun to use.

Grizzly 4 3/4” Power Rotary table c/w DRO

Well here it is. I took it apart to make sure it was clean inside and it was pretty good. I drilled and tapped the table for a pallet. And I mounted a 6” 3 jaw directly to the table. I had to drill thru a 3 jaw from the top side and it worked well. It’s back together now. No backlash that I can...

Grizzly 4 3/4” Power Rotary table c/w DRO

You bet. I just took it all apart to drill the table. To my surprise it has bearings thruout. 4” thrust bearing. And center shaft bearings.

Grizzly 4 3/4” Power Rotary table c/w DRO

Hey guys I got the unit today. It is all that was advertised. Workmanship is not bad. The table is flat to the mill bed in the .0002” range. The #23 Nima stepper motor has more torque than I imagined. More than enough to mill with a 1/2” endmill. I am definitely going to put my 6” 3 jaw on it...

    Grizzly Rotary Table c/w DRO

The different thoughts and opinions are great. I am a machinist for longer than I care to remember. I am of two minds as well. Using a manual RT does indeed work the brain cells. But so does the NC RT. The one thing I do not have are index plates. All the work I have done to date on the RT is...
